No Wheat Marketing Quotas Signal for Texas
College Station Texas June 1 Any possibility wheat marketing quotas might be proclaimed to regulate grain movement in Texas this summer was erased by information from AAA headquarters. The US wheat supply is 974 million bushels as of July 1, 47 million below the level needed for a quota proclamation under the Agricultural Adjustment Act. The 1940 national wheat acreage allotment will be 7 million acres greater than this year's 55 million. May 1 crop report shows Texas wheat around 30,860,000 bushels versus 35,046,000 in 1938 and a 10 year average of 32,038,000. Charles Thomas of Pampa, Texas, said the news will be welcomed in the North Plains where prospects are good. Estimated Texas abandonment is 27 percent of seeded wheat, leaving 2,939,000 acres for harvest. Indicated yield is 10.5 bushels per harvested acre against 9.0 in 1938 and a 10 year average of 10.2.

Masters degree requirements altered at Southwest Texas
San Marcos Texas June 1 Recent abandonment of the thesis as a requirement for a Master’s degree by Southwest Texas State College makes that school the first and only institution in Texas with the non thesis arrangement. In place of writing a thesis graduate students may now complete an additional twelve hours of advanced work according to J L Rogers executive secretary of the Graduate Council.
