Fatal Mower Accident Claims 12 year old Olivia Hidalgo

Olivia C Hidalgo of Gonzales died at Holmes Memorial Hospital after a power mower injury at her Route 1 home. The 12 year old, born November 25 1955, was a Gonzales student and Sacred Heart member. Burial followed June 3 at St James Cemetery. Survivors include her parents and five siblings.

Gonzales Theater Stages Stop the World Musical Run

Sacred Heart Parish Picnic at Hallettsville Festival

Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville hosts its annual June Festival on Sunday June 9. An 11:00 am beef barbecue, stew and fried chicken dinner is served in the American Legion Hall with tickets 1.25 for adults and 0.50 for children under 12. An auction runs 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm featuring items from cigars to antique furniture. Supper is 5:00 to 7:30 pm. A carnival atmosphere with games rides and music by the Westerners for day and night dancing.

Drowning Victim Clyde Mikes Laid to Rest in Gonzales

Funeral services were held in Gonzales for Clyde William Mikes age 17 6 1 who drowned in the Guadalupe River June 1 while washing off from irrigation work at Abercrombie Ranch. The body was recovered by a diver downstream. He was a Gonzales High School student born September 30 1950. Survivors include his parents four sisters and one brother.

Mrs Pavlicek nee Lillie Svoboda died May 24 1968 in Floresville nursing home at 78. Funeral held May 25 in Shiner Buffington Funeral Home Chapel with Rev F E Eilers officiating. Burial in Shiner City Cemetery. Survived by four sons 15 grandchildren.

Mrs A Zacharias laid to rest in Shiner

Anna Zacharias died at 1 20 am Thursday May 30 1968 in Frank Wagner Memorial Hospital at age 84 years 8 months 29 days. She was born September 1 1883 in Rapshagen Germany and moved to Texas as a child. She married Fritz Zacharias in 1900 and celebrated a Golden Anniversary in 1950. Survivors include daughter Minnie Pundt sister Mary Hauschild four grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held May 31 at the United Dr Martin Luther Church with burial in Shiner City Cemetery.

State Annual Polka and Waltz Festival Opens in Waco June 9

The Polka and Waltz Association of Texas stages its fourth annual festival at Geneva Hall Waco on Sunday June 9 1968. A 1 PM start features the Vrazela Orchestra Buckholts leading a parade of eleven bands with broadcasts by KAWA radio and a full afternoon evening of polka and waltz music plus food and air conditioned comfort. Ten named bands travel from Shiner Yoakum Dallas Fay etteville New Braunfels Corpus Christi El Campo Hallettsville and more.
