WAVY NAN IN TOWN PROMOTES SAILOR ON LEAVE

Robert Bednar, one of the first in our area to enlist, arrived in Shiner from Pensacola on leave. He is in good health, has gained weight and height, and has been promoted with higher pay. He remains with the U S Henderson marines bound for Mexican waters. He plans to visit relatives in Shiner and nearby towns before returning to his ship, with about 16 months left to serve.

Committee reports aid drive results for Armenian sufferers

The committee appointed to solicit aid for the Armenian sufferers in the Near East reports a collection of $112.84. Given the many demands on donations this is a favorable showing.

Messrs Herder Stapp and Bulwer return from Yoakum to San Antonio with news of crop conditions along the Sap to Beeville and between Beeville Kenedy and Three Rivers. They report crops well advanced with promising yields of corn cotton and foodstuffs. Cotton ready to bloom, corn in roasting ear stage, feed crops well advanced.

Echoes From The Boy Graduate In Flatonia Schulenburg Tour

The Dear Boy Graduate drew invitations to perform in Flatonia last Tuesday and Schulenburg Friday. The full cast and orchestra traveled by car and returned the same night. Schulenburg noted the orchestra arrived late so improvised numbers saved the program. Shiner citizens lent cars and support for the events.

Last Sunday three young members Oswald Kaspar Bertha Meyer and Olga Kaspar were received into full fellowship of the church by Confirmation and holy communion. Pastor H C Bierman noted they answered over three hundred catechism questions showing thorough instruction. He plans forming a new class soon.

Information Bureau Proposes June 14 Red Cross Soldiers Day

Information Bureau announces June 14 at the Bark American Red Cross Bureau will aid ex service members. The Red Cross will help veterans secure government entitlements including insurance, allowances, vocational education, medical treatment, bonuses, and unreceived liberty bonds. National Headquarters seeks to contact all service members within two months to complete this outreach.

The Kleberg Oil Company hit a gusher about four miles southwest of Kingsville in Kleberg county yesterday, May 30, with news reaching here via telephone from Joseph Lodovic Jr. in Kingsville. Company president is Charles Flato Sr. and a major stockholder is Charles Flato Jr. Several shareholders, including Mrs. Joseph Lodovico, reside in San Antonio per the San Antonio Express.
