Boys State Delegates Named for 1977 Session at Texas University

David Janecek and Eddy Rodriguez were chosen as delegates for the 1977 American Legion Boys State at the University of Texas June 8 to 14, with alternates Larry Fisseler and David Boedeker. Sponsored by Kolar Stanek Post 201, the program aims to teach citizenship through practical government.

Farm Bureau Family Night at Shiner VFW Home

The Shiner Farm Bureau will host its annual family night on Tuesday June 14 at the Shiner VFW Home. Social hour starts at 7:00 and stew supper at 8:00. Bring a side dish. Adult tickets cost 1.00 and children under 12 pay 0.50. Tickets available at Hochheim Prairie Farm Mutual Association office and Pohler's Tire Service until June 11.

Outstanding Athletes Named At St Paul All Sports Banquet

Eddie Matula and Charlotte Kaiser were named the outstanding boy and girl athletes for 1976 77 at the St Paul All Sports banquet held May 18 at St Paul High School gym. Ninety student athletes were honored by the St Paul Booster Club with jackets for lettering and plaques for top awards.

Shiner Public Schools Honor Longtime Staff At Retirement Party

The Shiner Public Schools staff celebrated retirements for Florine Berckenhoff and August Darilek of the elementary teaching ranks and cafeteria supervisor Bessie Turek at Patek's Restaurant on Tuesday May 24 1977. The events included a banquet a prayer a musical program and certificates of merit. The honorees aggregate service totaled 101 years with 67 years in Shiner.

Church School Opens June 6

Vacation Church School at United Dr. Martin Luther Church begins Monday morning June 6 at 8 30 and runs for five days. The 1977 VCS series Jesus our Lord offers ideas to promote learning through The Good News Tree where all ages share experiences songs plays and worship with a strong evangelical thrust. Pupils are encouraged to witness to their Christian faith. Refreshments mid morning require cookies and cash contributions for teaching materials.

Natalie Rose Dietschke Born to Harvey and Marian Dietschke

The Dietschke couple of Placebo announce the birth of their first child a girl named Natalie Rose at De Tar Hospital in Victoria on May 25 1977. The baby weighs 8 pounds 9 ounces and has Marian Pesek as the mother’s former name and Wied as her birthplace. Grandparents Rudolph Pesek Reinhold Dietschke and the Dietschke family celebrate the new arrival for the 32nd time in the family.

Pink Ladies Open House At Shiner Hospital May 1977

Shiner Hospital Auxiliary held an open house during National Hospital Week with two sessions on Sunday May 15 1977. About 100 visitors toured the hospital while the group outlined services and fund raising activities including blood drives tele phone reception X ray aid and gift shop profits.

Bluebonnet Girls State at Texas Lutheran College Seguin runs June 14 to 24 1977 with delegates Melinda Renken Sher ry Buesing Clare Hybner and Cheryl Otto all juniors sponsored by the Shiner American Legion Auxiliary They come from St Paul Shiner and local schools and hold roles in NHS drama UIL and student government The program trains citizenship skills and self government with separate state city and legislative bodies.

Lavaca County ASCS announces a June 6 to 17 registration period for beef producers to vote on a beef research and information order. Each production entity votes once. registration may be by mail or in person with lists posted daily and final on June 22.
