Semi natural wild turkey project in Texas waterways
Wildlife news from Austin reports a program by the Game Fish and Oyster Commission in cooperation with the Soil Conservation Service and the Farm Security Administration to fence a fifty acre tract near Bonham for semi natural turkey rearing. Forty eight trapped birds released, nesting hens noted, with hopes the young will fly over the fence and repopulate surrounding areas. The effort may be expanded to other Texas areas if successful. A deer at a Harper farm ate chicks, explained by protein deficiency in the deer diet. Thousands of game and rough fish died after a heavy hail storm in the San Saba River, with fish killed by debris and silt in floodwaters. The Bunjes Home Democratic Club met at Mrs. Alfred Nollkamper’s with eighteen members and five visitors. Minutes were read and approved. Members sang, Chovanetz reported on the district meeting in San Antonio, and Miss Pfeiffer led demonstrations with popcorn cheese and fruit. Lunch followed. Next meeting with Mrs. Chovanetz at the Bunjes School June 22.
