The Shiner election last Saturday was quiet with about a third of eligible voters participating. Three of five proposed amendments failed while the suffrage amendment appeared to lead, and a Confederate pension tax raise also showed support. Statewide turnout was likely the lightest ever, with roughly one in ten of over 800 000 votes cast.
The Pfeilin family mourns the death of their daughter Vavyonne Louise Pfeil aged two years five months and eight days. Funeral services were held at 3 30 p m Saturday at the family home with Rev Wolfsdorf officiating. A choir sang while flowers covered the grave and distant relatives attended from Williamsburg Hallettsville Humble and Schulenburg.
The A. A. Huebsch case in Gonzales district court was continued to the next term because the defendant is ill in a San Antonio hospital. Doctors certify he cannot attend trial at the present term.
The Lavaca County Farmers Union held a meeting at Rocky Site Park last Monday and elected Pres. Ch. Next meeting set for the first Monday in October at Hallettsville.
Hallettsville Herald reports an election Wednesday approving $20,000 in city bonds to build and equip a new electric light plant. Of 92 total votes, 88 favored, 3 opposed, 1 invalid for scratching both options, marking a decisive result after a prior bond issue stalled by attorney general technicalities.
The Camp Fire Girls rehearse a three act drama titled Rebecca's Triumph for Methodist Church benefit. The date will be announced next week.
A thoroughly enjoyable meeting was held Tuesday afternoon with Miss Iona May Striebeck. With help from Guardian Mrs Lane and assistant Miss Emily Schmidt the Camp Fire Girls are making rapid progress on the Fire Makers Rank.
Mr and Mrs Fred Dieta Jr and Mr and Mrs W F Kram arrived in Shiner from Woodland California last Monday to visit the family of Mr E F Ruhmann.
Adam Kloss of Flatonia died last Wednesday aged 69 years and 7 months. The funeral was held in Flatonia with Shiner attendees including Gerh. Siems and wife Paul Kempe and family Ferd Kaspar and wife Mrs F P Luck and Mrs Joe Macha Kloss belonged to the O D H S Lodge and was brother in law of Mesdames Luck and Macha.
