Birthday Celebration for Mr. D. Garbade

Friends and family gathered last Sunday to surprise Mr. D. Garbade on his 70th birthday with a reunion at home. Attendees included W. T. Garbade of Galveston and families from Flatonia Shiner and other relatives. Henry Garbade could not attend but sent a letter. The dinner was prepared by Mrs. Garbade and shared among kin, with well wishes for many more such gatherings.

Dedication of New Catholic Church Of SS Cyril And Methodius

Bishop Crossaerts led fifty seven priests in a 9:30 parade from the rectory to the new church for dedication services. About 8,000 attendees filled seating and heard solemn rites, then enjoyed a Bluecher Park dinner, music, and sports. A Schu Ein burg 13 to 4 victory capped the day, with 540 dance tickets sold. The church cost $125,000 with $5,000 plus gross receipts, and Father Wolf led the project. raffles awarded a Ford car, lamps, sewing machine, and washing machine.
