Ginners Convention Sets Meet in Yoakum Next Year in Shiner

More than 200 ginners from districts 15 18 and 19 gathered in Yoakum Tuesday July 14 for the annual convention. Henry Seifert of Weimar opened the sessions at the high school auditorium with an invocation by Rev Joseph Szymanski and a Yoakum Chamber welcome by J O Barnett. The program featured talks by Geo Herder Jr Geo Saga and Max Smith among others. A 400 guest barbecue followed at the Oaks Court area before adjournment. Next year’s meeting will be held in Shiner with Hon Henry Paulus among the principal speakers.

The Business Men's Club will hold its regular meeting and annual election of officers promptly at 7 o'clock tonight at Pohler's Cafe. Members are urged to attend to cast ballots and complete the officers’ slate for the coming year.

Garden Club Meets and Plans Fall Flower Show

The Garden Club met at Mrs. E. J. Kempe's home with Mrs. Edgar Wolters presiding due to the absence of the president and vice president. Thirteen members attended. minutes were read and approved. bills for float and floral exhibit at the Fair were paid. a Fall Flower Show was approved for Saturday November 7. The next meeting, August 21, will be at Mrs. Wolters with members to bring mixed flower arrangements. pansy seed will be ordered.

Fort Worth Centennial Open Plans Spark Big Texas Event

Fort Worth opened its Texas Centennial celebration with a showcase last Saturday as the city hosted a grand $2,500,000 entertainment program. Newspaper correspondents from five states attended a 6 o'clock Friday banquet as complimentary guests for a preview, with The Gazette receiving free tickets and an advertisement offering details on securing a free trip to the Fort Worth festivities.

Farm Land Plow-Under Rules Warn Farmers

Lavaca County agent G C King warns farmers tied to government land not to plow under crops such as peas or cane before contacting their committeeman. New forms, signed by the committeeman and two neighbors, grant temporary permission to plow under until final papers arrive. Crops on diverted acres must be left on the land and may not be harvested.

Paulus Earn Lavaca County Backing for District Attorney

Lavaca County voters are urged to back Henry S. Paulus in the District Attorney race. The Shiner native, who can practice before the U S Supreme Court, has long served on the State Board of Regents and as its president without pay. Supporters cite his loyalty, eloquence, and steady service to Lavaca and its neighboring areas, urging an appreciation vote at the upcoming primary.

Henry Stindt Dies by Suicide After Long Ill Health

Henry Stindt of Shiner died in the early hours after taking his own life, leaving a wife Augusta Wustebart and four children. Born January 30 1874 in Rutersville Texas he owned a large farm near Shiner for 48 years and was highly regarded. Funeral services were held from the family residence led by Rev W C Wolfsdorf, with O D H S Lodge rites and a large crowd attending.

Citizens visit Austin to discuss Highway 200 progress

Citizens including Secretary Denmark Mayor Rich ter J C Blohm and C B Welhausen with Editor Henry Reese of Gonzales met in Austin Monday by special appointment with the State Highway Commission and the W P A Commissioner H P Crouth. Five miles more were secured in Gonzales county enabling the work to cross Peach Creek and paving the way for a large highway bridge. The project slowly advances toward becoming a reality.
