Sweet Home Parish Picnic Planned at American Legion Hall

Queen of Peace Church in Sweet Home organizes its annual parish picnic set for Sunday July 25 at the American Legion Hall near Sweet Home. Dinner starts 11 00 a m and supper 5 00 p m with barbecue chicken and beef stew priced 2 00 for adults 1 00 for children. Shiner ISD Board Sets 1976 77 Lunch Prices

Unanimous vote at the Shiner Independent School District board meeting on July 14 1976 set lunch prices for 1976 77 at 40 cents for K-6 students 50 cents for grades 7-12 and 70 cents for faculty. The package includes notes on budgeting inflation and local tax needs with bids awarded for milk bread and fuel and a planned August review.

Paul Hranitzky and Victor Koncaba of the Shiner chapter attended the State FFA Convention in Dallas. The three day meeting featured speeches by Charlie Plumb Senator John Tower Bobby Tucker and Fred McClure and included awards scholarships and the election of a new FFA president Ken Johnson of Nacogdoches. Ray Seale accompanied the group as advisor.

Shiner Lumber Co Under New Management

Shiner Lumber Co now owned by Call Lumber Co of Gonzales and operating under its old name. Wayne Brown with 14 years in the lumber yard business becomes general manager of both yards. Bill Noack runs the cabinet shop for custom cabinets. Staff includes Sandy Vallentine, Mrs Ruby Hewig, and Keith Brown maintaining prior service and material quality.

Yoakum Store Burglarized by Roof Entry

Bilroy's Discount Center at 313 Irvine St. reported a burglary after thieves entered via the roof and looted the safe. Store manager John Urban and employee Fernando Fernandez discovered the break at 8 a.m. Saturday when opening the shop. Police investigator Tommy Linn described a punch and peel method. A prior safe burglary was reported at Stanley Supermarket in Gonzales using a similar entry.

Postal Service Moves On July 18 Rate Hikes

The Postal Service announced rate increases effective July 18 affecting special delivery stamps money orders and several mail services. Registered and certified mail costs rise and second class publications see higher rates while first class letter and postal card prices stay at 13 and 9 cents respectively. Bulk third class mail also changes with lower per piece rates for large volumes.
