Postmaster General Orders Parcel Post Size Increase

Neb July 13 Postmaster General Burleson orders parcel post packages enlarged to a combined length and girth of eighty four inches allowing standard fruit and berry crates. He also authorized a balance of a system for parcel post packages similar to that used by express companies.

The Eastern Star held a business meeting appointing Edmund Wolters and Mesdames W A Wendtland Jr and Joe Hughs to purchase an organ. Elo Wolters and C C Amsler will assist with a floor work practice, Stella Wolters named official reporter. Elo Wolters discussed her Panama Pacific excursion and meeting Stars nationwide, noting Shiner Chapter No 272 recorded at the San Diego Exposition Western Star rest room.

Shiner Dominates Yoakum Diamond Game 16–0

The Yoakam diamond hosted a Sunday baseball affair where Shiner crushed Halletsville 16 to 0. Shiner batteries were Martin and Metz while Halletsville used Dahl Deborah and Ingram. The lop-sided score led to cancellation of the remaining two games.

Shiner Post Office Yearly Money Orders Decline

The Shiner Post Office reports a drop in domestic money orders issued from 9 428 in 1913 14 to 8 416 in 1914 15 a decrease of 1 012. It also notes 618 parcels insured and 410 letters registered in the just completed year.

Justice Court reports the examining trial of John R Kloesel resulted in a $500.00 bond to appear before the next Grand Jury. No other cases heard, but several pleas of guilty occurred in misdemeanor cases.

Mrs. P Karnes of Yoakum who was operated on last week at Shiner Hospital is doing nicely. Mrs. Tom Fred of Nursey is the guest of her sister Miss Janie Walker. Miss Ella Hornsby is enjoying a well earned vacation. Mr. P Karnes and daughter of Yoakum spent Monday at the hospital with Mrs Karnes.

Notice to Auto Drivers in Shiner Reminds Speed Limit

The streets of Shiner must not be used as a speedway with a speed limit of eight miles per hour. Drivers are urged to blow horns at corners and operate slowly to prevent accidents as city officers emphasize enforcement due to many machines on the streets.

A small fire in the west part of town destroyed a frame house owned by Robert Braun behind the Trautwein and Wolters gun shop. It was a total loss. Firemen responded promptly to the scene.
