The Divablo at the Opera House Draws Large Crowd

The Bohemian play The Divablo and two acts Baron Nezdara and Spook in Cobbler's Shop drew the largest crowd in the building. Cast included Jos Hruby B J Novak and Anna Janecek in lead roles. Proceeds for the Catholic Church building fund totaled 120 dollars 10 cents. Frank Dolossi attended the Galveston oil men convention and enjoyed a city welcome banquet at the Beach hotel with plans to return next year.

Methodist church parcels post sale and tea

The Ladies Aid Society of the Methodist church will hold a parcels post sale and tea at Mrs Edmund Wol ters residence on Friday July 9 from 3 to 7 pm. Everyone is invited and proceeds benefit the church.

Post Office to Observe July Fifth Holiday

The national holiday falls on Sunday so postoffice employees will observe Monday the 5th. No mail will be delivered on the routes and the local office will remain on regular Sunday hours.

Catholic Knights of America stage tri-lingual short plays

Three short plays were presented by the Catholic Knights of America on June 29 at St. Michael's Parish Hall. English "The Shoemaker's Trouble" featured Tillie L. Struss and Henry Strauss. the other two plays were in German and Bohemian. The item also notes civic notices about Civil War veterans and local social pages, including readings by Ella E. Lane and a death of Prof Z A Hall at Kyle.

Small Smoke House Fire at Daniels Home

A minor fire at the D C Daniels residence was detected Tuesday around 4 pm triggering the alarm. The blaze damaged the smoke house and ironing board wrappings, with about 75 dollars in damage. Firefighters responded quickly. some speculate a calendar mix up and early Fourth of July celebration contributed.

Road Bond Election Falls Short in Shiner and Wied Boxes

The good roads measure was defeated again as limited turnout reduced the vote by about 75 in Shiner and 12 in Wied compared with the last election. Returns show scattered tallies across boxes with overall totals for and against road bonds not reaching passage.
