A city artesian well reached water at a depth of 361 feet on Saturday afternoon. The overall depth is 398 feet with the upper 50 feet filled by sand and water.
The Business Men's Club met at the Royal Cafe and conducted routine business including bill payments. President Kaspar was unanimously re elected, with Vice President Denmark nominated again but declining after two years as president, and Postmaster Koether chosen as Vice President. Ella E Lane was re elected secretary for life. A $25 donation was made to the Community Chest and details on Bargain Day will appear July 26 in the Gazette. Mae Hughs attended in place of C C Amsler.

The Shiner cannery was busy Tuesday morning as the first meat canning was set to begin at 8 o clock. County Agent Parks explained beef or pork can be canned in summer if thoroughly cooled in cold storage, requiring the meat to stay three days for best results. If storage temperature is below freezing the meat should not stay longer than 12 hours to avoid freezing.
Mr and Mrs Henry F Ehlers announce the birth of a daughter on July 12 named Dorothea Ophelia. The family shares happiness and looks forward to introducing their new arrival to relatives and friends.
Slim Wilson, a Ford salesman for R. J. Strauss, claims he moved from nine miles away and after ten months at the Royal Cafe in Shiner he gained 38 pounds. He adds that underweight customers should buy a meal ticket and a V8 Ford to be happy.
The St Ludmila P T A on the High School campus led by President Mrs. Joe Michna presented a Recreation hour program featuring the K C B Orchestra under Emil Novak. Guests included Ethel Bednar of Philadelphia and a standout young drummer George Novak, son of Frank, noted for his deft drum work.
The Lavaca county Home Demonstration council will hold its regular monthly meeting on Saturday July 21st at the courthouse starting at 2 P M It urges all ladies attending the Short Course July 30 to Aug 3 to be present.
An elderly woman, Mrs. P. A. Lyons, 89, fell on steps near Yoakum while staying with her niece. She suffered a crushed hip bone and was taken by ambulance to Mrs. Mewes in Saturday. Her daughter Mrs. Ada Krueger of Austin aids with care and medical attention is focused on comfort.
There will be no morning service as the pastor attends an encampment at Palacios. Sunday school starts at 10 am. A special youth service is held Sunday night at 8 o’clock led by the church young people.

Sunday night about 9 30 Chas Kloss and the I G Janca Chevrolet sedan crashed on a culvert a mile from town on the highway. Mrs Janca and her young daughter suffered a broken hip and a broken left leg while Mr Janca escaped injury. The Kloss coupe burned, Chas Kloss recovering from shock. Cheeko the helper aided Kloss and the Janca party received first aid at the local hospital before moving to the Miculka home where a nurse attends the mother and child.

Mrs M E Wolters hosted a July 13 birthday gathering for Mr Wolters at the Royal Cafe. Relatives from Schulenburg and local guests filled the evening with tributes, a large cake with twenty one candles, and a Texas bluebells theme. The honoree, the youngest in the clan, joked about being old enough to vote as well wishes poured in for his future activities in the town and with family.
The Lutheran Ladies Aid held a regular session Wednesday July 11 at 8 p.m. Rev Wolfsdorf led prayer and scripture. Minutes were read and approved. Guests included Miss Roth San Antonio Mrs Crosby Wilson and Mrs Neuman Breslau. Junior choir sang and a lunch was served in Luther Hall. Next meeting set for August 8 at 3 p.m. Reporter
The Oak Grove annual picnic held Sunday July 15 was a success with total receipts of 420 dollars. The Trustees express gratitude to John Fishbeck for the yearling donation, the merchants of Moulton and Shiner for support, contributors of bazaar articles, Joe Luster Sr. for meats, and all volunteers who aided at tables and stands.
Miss Marie Lahodny is enjoying a vacation in Corpus Christi visiting local sights and staying at a coastal hotel. She plans to explore beaches, museums, and waterfront restaurants during her stay.
