The Shiner Fair Association thanks the citizens of Shiner and surrounding areas for their cooperation in making the fair a great success. The note extends appreciation to all committee members and contributors for work, exhibits, and support, and acknowledges patronage from nearby towns and favorable newspaper coverage.
The Ladies Aid of M. H. Church hosts a tea and lawn sociable next Tuesday night July 24 at Welhausen Park. Lunch starts at 8 o clock with 15 cents per plate. Ice cold soda water will be available for children. Enjoy an open air evening.
Mr Evans, manager of the Yoakum Piggly Wiggly, visited to discuss prospects for a Shiner store. He reported strong Yoakum performance, sale of Cuero rights, and plans to expand across about 1800 stores. He credited the recent fair with community spirit and cooperation.
We express heartfelt thanks to those who assisted us during our daughter and sister's illness and death. Special thanks to Father F X Wolf and Father P P Kasper for consoling words at church and grave. Grateful for the Sisters of St Ludmila's for the songs at the Requiem Mass and to neighbors, friends, and floral contributors. May God bless you all, Mr and Mrs John Novak and family.
Base Ball boys sold 1279 of 2000 tickets for a six cylinder Buick at Rocky Site Park dance Saturday night. Ticket 533 drawn by Master Robert Harnder was held by W. W. Find of Yoakum. Finch donated 31.85 to cover losses. Civil Service exam names listed for Rt 4 vacancy from Shiner Post Office. Names include Aug Baca Ted Dziewas Thomas Hughs Reichardt Schulze Turek De Harde Othold Barak Barosh.
The leaf worm situation grows alarming in the area as growers spend hundreds of dollars by wire and telephone to rush poison. Scarcity of poison complicates efforts, but hot dry weather may save the crop as showers could wash away chemicals where applied.
A Wednesday night program on July 24 offers races for small and junior boys and girls, a tug of war, three legged race, hoop contest, and Jean and fat races plus a benefit for the Ladies Aid of the M. E. Church at Welhausen Park.
Rev Simpson of Cuero, presiding elder of this charge, will visit the M. E. Church next Sunday night and preach at eight o clock. Everybody invited.
The Five Hundred Club met July 6 at Miss Ella Plageman’s home with four tables set. Hostess Miss Jessie Williams of Taft served a tongue salad and iced tea. L. G. Valenta won first prize, a silver vanity, James J. Robinson of Princeton Indiana took the booby, a tape measure. Members present included Mesdames Tamasco Longoria Henkhane Wolters Holchak Hepler Valenta and Miss Plageman. guests included Mesdames Blohm Welhausen Donohue Robinson and misses Thulemeyer Schmidt Hughs Ponton and Williams.
The Luther League hosts an ice cream social Friday night on the church lawn. Everyone is invited to attend.
Superintendent T. H. Leslie was home from San Marcos last weekend, resuming duties and reports a quiet week with no major incidents. Local officials say the brief trip focused on community outreach and school coordination.
The Catholic Bohemian Union of Texas known as K J T held its convention July 9 13 in our city. Delegates from Texas attended with 85 delegates and 18 priests present. The program included a High Mass, processions, addresses by local and visiting clergy, and a banquet at Bluecher Park. Officers elected included Gr President A J Kallus Wied Gr, vice president F W Chu dej Cyclone, secretary F C Janda La Grange, treasurer F J Kallus La Acct Karen Peter Weimar, Gr Surgeon S J Srvesper West, and directors W J Janecik Shiner Vlaclovsky Wal lis Bezdek West J A Drozd Penelope. The convention adjourned to meet in Ennis in July 1926.
