Bell Campaign Address Draws Large Shiner Crowd

Basil B. Bell, candidate for State Representative District 23, spoke Saturday afternoon in Shiner to a large crowd. He opened by saying his goal was to prove he could stand and speak, and presented a competent platform with attentive listening.

Methodists Plan Dedication of New Austin Building

The Educational Building of the Methodist Church will be dedicated next Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock in Austin. Wood H. Patrick superintendent of the Austin District will deliver the address. The public is invited to attend and stay for the open house after the service.

First Bale Of Cotton At Nordheim 1948

The first bale of the 1948 season was brought to Nordheim on July 7. It weighed 543 pounds and sold for 40 cents per pound, marking DeWitt County’s first bale of the season. The 1947 first bale arrived July 19.

A motion picture titled Reach ing From Heaven will be shown at United Dr. Martin Luther Church on Sunday night at 8 00 oclock. The film runs 1 hour and 20 minutes and is described as one of the latest religious motion pictures. All are invited to attend.

Wolters Brothers Celebrate 84th Birthday Milestone

M E Wolters senior member of Wolters Bros Co was surprised Tuesday at 7 pm with a mutton barbec ue to mark his eighty fourth birthday. About fifty employees and family members attended in the store with cards letters and a radio tribute flowing in from well wishers.

Pvt Pustejovsky Funeral Rites Monday July 19

Funeral services for Pvt George L. Pustejovsky will be held Monday July 19 at 9 o clock from the family residence and at Shiner Catholic Church for a Requiem High Mass. He died in France on August 7, 1944, and will be interred with full rites. Rosary is Sunday evening, and businesses close with flags at half staff.

Volunteers Sought for State X-Ray Unit in Shiner

The State Health Department offers free X-Ray service in Shiner on Saturday August 7. At least ten volunteer clerical workers are needed to assist, five in the morning and five in the afternoon. Sign up at the Gazette office. the exact location will be announced next week.

Navy recruiter to visit Shiner for July trade school enlists

Roman E. Hanak Inc USN recruiter from Victoria Texas will visit Shiner on July 22 at the Post Office Building. He will offer high school graduates information on Navy trade schools with quotas unlimited for the rest of July before August 1 restrictive limits begin. New Kaiser-Frazer Agent Opens in Yoakum

L. C. Gray takes over the Kaiser-Frazer agency from John Romans and operates as L. C. Gray Motor Co. Gray, from Corpus Christi, has prior Yoakum ties. The firm will sell new Kaiser-Frazer cars and has a complete service department with several deliveries already made. Announcement appears in the Gazette this week.

Baby Mary Eicher Placed At Rest

The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Eicher died at the local hospital Sunday evening. Born July 9, she weighed six pounds six ounces and was their first child. Funeral services were held from Eschenburg Funeral Parlor to St Cyril and Methodius Church with burial in Catholic Cemetery.

Bartaks Sail From United States to Czechoslovakia

Dr and Mrs J P Bartak depart Shiner Texas for Czechoslovakia after visits in Boston New York and Columbia South Carolina. They plan to sail New Orleans July 15 via Genoa and Geneva to Prague. Paul Bartak and sister Helen remain in Texas for school while extended family visits Houston.

Ninth Annual Cotton Research Congress Set for July in Dallas

Dallas hosts the ninth annual Cotton Research Congress at the Baker Hotel July 22 to 24 with themes on world trade markets production and mechanization. Shiner Rotary Club Celebrates Second Birthday

The Shiner Rotary Club marked its second birthday with a Rotary Ann evening at the Methodist Church educational building. A 7:30 dinner featured roast beef and sides, blue and orange floral decor, and a varied program including a barber shop quartet and readings.
