Longtime Praha pioneer Martin Farda dies at 99
Martin Farda 99 former Shinerite died in his sleep Friday July 2 at the home of his daughter and son in law in St John s near Schulenburg. Born August 25 1848 in Ludemar Czechoslovakia he lived a full life as a Church and K J T lodge member helping build the Praha church and stone for Muldoon. He sailed to America September 11 1886 with wife and son Frank and later resided in Praha Kokernot Velehrad and St John s. He is survived by his daughter Mary 12 grandchildren 30 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. funeral from Schwenke Baumgarten Schulenburg with Requiem High Mass. Interment at Praha Catholic Cemetery beside his wife.

The remains of Tech 5th Grade Steve E. Stock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Stock, are being sent to his homeland for reinterment. He was killed in France on December 14, 1944, one day after his 26th birthday, after making the supreme sacrifice.

Draft plan outlines 250 000 first year inductees
Washington reports the army estimates 225 000 to 250 000 men to be inducted in the first year of the new military draft. Inductions start after Sept. 22 with about 30 000 monthly average. Training centers include Fort Riley Kansas Camp Chaffee Arkansas Camp Breckenridge Kentucky Camp Pickett Virginia and Camp Breckenridge listed. The Shiner City Council asks the Gova to send a DDT plane to dust the city for sanitary reasons addressing Poli tis, Dysentary and other health risks. The plane may fly 30 to 50 feet above ground with no forced landing. Bee keepers are warned to protect hives as spray could kill bees. A telegram indicated the aircraft could arrive today or Friday.
