Austin June 29 The Board of Education set per capita apportionment at 17.50 the statutory maximum for State school aid covering about 1,600,000 students in 1935 36. Augmented by special levies the fund aims for a 2 5 million cash balance by August 31. Only once before was 17 50 reached in 1929.
The Board of Education approved installing Home Economics at Shiner High School. Anita Richter of Moulton was elected Home Economics instructor. She previously taught in the elementary department and helped initiate such programs in Florida High School. She will be warmly welcomed by students and patrons.
At a Board of Education meeting on Monday night the resignation of Miss Grace McDonald was accepted. The vacancy will be filled later. McDonald leaves Shiner for a more lucrative position at Schulenburg High School after two years of valued service in music and teaching.
At his daughter Mrs Gus Jaehne’s home a birthday tribute honors Mr Hauschild on his 90th anniversary. Born June 22 1845 the energetic centenarian enjoys health and activity as about 25 relatives gather for a June 23 reunion with daughter Hattie visiting from Floresville. A luncheon followed the celebration.
Mr and Mrs Anton Hodanek and their family are spending time abroad in an extended stay for the season. The Hodank family activities and travel plans are outlined in community notices.
The Shiner Business Men's Club holds its regular meeting tonight with the annual election of officers. Pohler's Cafe serves luncheon at 7 o'clock and contributing members attend. A full turnout of 62 is desired. only members may attend unless a guest privilege is extended. The Sect Treas urges all July clues be filed and all fees pass through the treasurer.
At the regular July meeting the Young Peoples Division of the Methodist Church elected officers: President Maxine McElroy, Vice President Edith Wolters, Secretary Inez Cauthern, Treasurer Maureen Riske, Worship Committee Chairman Leona Valek, Recreation Committee Chairman Gilbert Kasper. The recreation committee planned a sunrise breakfast for Wednesday July 10.
The Wolters Herder families in Texas plan a Sunday gathering on July 21 at Industry in Austin County to commemorate 100 years since the Wolters settlement. Gen Jacob F Wolters will give a brief family history recap as reunions aim to register names from generations two through six. Guests are asked to bring a picnic lunch and cold drinks and the event starts at noon.
Mrs Het tie Louwhen age 51 died, funeral services were conducted at Westheimer Funeral Home and Christ Episcopal Church with Rev James F De Wolf officiating. Burial followed at Forest Park Cemetery. Born Red Rock she visited Shiner often and was well known. Survived by husband and her only child Mrs R E Jamerson of Houston. Shiner attendees included Mrs E Runk and daughters Miss Emma Runk and Mrs Elo Wolters and Mr Wolters and Herbert Runk. joined in Houston by Bismark Runk and family of Alice and Hans Runk and family of Port Lavaca.
Rev A Guyon will fill his regular appointment at the M E Church next Sunday morning at 11 and at night at 7 45. Public cordially invited to worship with this congregation.
Church notices list services at United Dr Martin Luther Church with a 9:00 a m Sunday School and 10:00 a m Divine Service. An English service is at 8 p m in Dreyer. July 11 includes Senior Luther League and Ladies' Aid meetings. July 18 hosts Brotherhood. Rev Richard Schuetze urges church membership as essential to Christianity.

Miss Bertha Janak resigned as Supt of the local hospital last Saturday. Information from Dr. F M Wagner states Miss Helen Havel of San Antonio will assume charge on August 1.
Otto Turek struck out 13 batters and allowed two hits as the Shiner Brewers defeated Kerrville Legion 4 to 1 on the local diamond. The standout pitcher carried the game, keeping Kerrville off the board while the Brewers offense answered with timely scoring.
Shiner lost two regulars Lichey and Strauss but played steady defense and scored two runs in the third. Converse Randolph Field broke through in the seventh with one run then added two in the eighth and one in the ninth to win 4 to 2 on the local diamond. Key lineup stars for Converse included Hightower Christy Kneupper Renner t Knewald and Mayer while Shiner featured Fischnar Grill Merrem Turek Garbade Agri cola McDonald Bednar Um pires Richter Hughs in a hard fought nine inning game.
A brief storm and light rain cooled a spell of three days of intense heat. Residents had been unprepared for temperatures around 96 degrees, with many relying on electric fans to cope.

Funeral services for Albert Caka Sr. were held Wednesday morning at the Catholic church. He was 78 years old and a more complete notice will be given next week.

Distressing news from Lubbock Hospital reports William Lumsden of Wilson in critical condition following a serious motorcycle accident. He is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Lumsden.
Washington office instruction requires that all cotton planted on farms with applications for ginning certificates be measured. Non contracted farms await measurement before certificates can be issued. County Agent J. M. Parks in Lavaca County Hallettsville Texas to oversee the district start on Wednesday July 10.
The Lutheran Ladies Aid met at 3 p.m. on Wednesday July 3 at Dr Martin Luther church. Rev Wolfsdorf led song and prayer and lectured on Hebrews Chapter Three. Mrs August Schramm presided and welcomed guests. minutes were approved. Attendees shared coffee and lunch in Luther Hall. Next meeting set for August 6 at 30 o'clock.
Mrs A L Valek hosted the Methodist Ladies Aid on Wednesday June 27 with Vice President Mrs H H Striebeck presiding. Plans were set for the annual Aid and Sunday School picnic at Sulphur Park July 24 with supper at 8 PM. Rev A Guyon gave a lecture on Ephesians and Mrs Kaspar led a Philippians review. Guests included Rev and Mrs A Guyon Hallettsville Mrs E D Holchak Kenedy and Mrs A J Blohm among others.
The Gazette received a College of Arts and Sciences notice naming 659 honor roll students from a total of 4809 in the department. Ralph Otto Dreyer of Shiner is listed among the best.
