Pythian Sisters Install Officers at Summer Meeting
At a regular Pythian Sisters meeting on Tuesday afternoon officers were installed. Sandford as GM and Miss Hughs as GS. This was the last summer meeting with important business. Miss Hughs presented the gavel and rituals to Mrs Schramm. Letters of greeting were read from absent members and a soldier’s record lists over 80 relatives in Uncle Sam’s family.

Shiner’s quota for the War Savings Stamp drive was fixed at 47850 dollars, with total reported up to July 8 reaching 50695 dollars and more expected. Only three slackers are reported so far, and efforts will be taken to bring them in. The burden of the war rests on all citizens, and all good people will assist in rounding up the slackers.

Mrs Carolina Darilek Dies in Moulton Home
Mrs. Carolina Darilek wife of William Darilek of Shiner died at two oclock Wednesday morning July 8 at her son Emil Darileks home in Moulton after a period of illness. Formerly near Henkhaugs they moved to Shiner years ago. Heart failure caused death. Her remains were buried in Moulton Catholic cemetery Thursday with Rev Father Neubert conducting the obsequies.

Flag Raising at Catholic Church Ceremony
On Friday July 5 a ceremony raised a service flag at the Catholic Church with 72 names and one golden name. Master Johnnie Kasper led the procession with U S Flags while four white dressed girls carried the flag. The event featured a Patek band rendition of the Star Spangled Banner and a blessing by Father Wolf. A patriotic address was given by Father Huebsch of Gonzales, with several visiting priests in attendance. Mrs. Ida Reichardt died July 2 aged 77. burial at Shiner City Cemetery conducted by Rev. Wolfsdorf.
