The Shiner Commercial Club met last Thursday continuing road upkeep until weather allows permanent improvements. A committee was appointed to cooperate with Fitch and other groups for a fall soldier homecoming celebration, with plans expected to materialize quickly.
Epworth Leaguers and friends met Monday at the rotary house for a pleasant social. Miss Meta Holchak and Miss Emily Schmidt led a clever program with ice cream and cake for thirty guests. Helen Ruhmini reported Shiner’s Epworth League ranked second in the Wet Texas Conference on efficiency.
Grace Episcopal Church hosted the wedding of Nell H Michot and Hans H Runk with Rev M A McKeogh officiating. The ceremony featured Lohengrin’s Bridal March, flower girls Anathalie Boyd and Mary Ellen Madhon, and a reception at the bride’s home for about seventy guests including out of town attendees from Shiner and Port Lavaca.
Word from Mrs M Rice, sister of Mrs A Schulze near Sweetwater, reports oil found at 1500 feet on her land yielding about 40 barrels per day. Drillers plan to extend depth beyond 8000 feet if needed to continue the find.
Two dances are scheduled in July with events at the Rocky Site on Saturday July 12 and at Bluecher Park on July 19.
The Gazette lists soldiers returning from World War I including Sergeant Kunetka and others with details of battles, awards and postings. It notes homecomings, injuries, discharges, and postwar occupations in Shiner and surrounding areas.
Announcement cards reveal Louis Macha and Miss Myrtle Ella Letbetter will wed at Gonzales Sunday morning at 9 30. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs T M Letbetter of Gonzales. Louis is described as a Shiner boy.
Miss Anna Weber daughter of Mr and Mrs August Weber and Mr O C Barneburg wed in San Antonio on Wednesday July 20. They are visiting Mrs Barneburgs parents in Shiner and will make their home in San Antonio. The Gazette extends congratulations and best wishes.
Mr Eddie Kunath former typo on the Gazette arrived home last Friday from Uncle Sams Service in France He is pleased to get back.
