Youth Marches On in Hats Off to Teens

The Mahomet Illinois high school class saved 800 dollars for a trip and donated it to a teacher after her home burned noting the generosity reported by the Houston Post. Texas Lutheran College buys the Plaza Hotel in Seguin to house students with August 1 possession date amid enrollment growth and housing needs. Legion Fourth of July Celebration Draws Huge Crowd

The American Legion and Auxiliary staged a July 4 celebration that drew a tremendous crowd, perhaps the largest ever in the park and the largest since the Legion bought the property. A perfect day aided attendance and participants were in a cheerful mood. full reports follow.

Lutheran Camp Site Dedication Sunday July 13

The 25 acre Evangelical Lutheran Synod camp near La Grange Texas and Louisiana will be blessed Sunday July 13 with a 5:00 p.m. service led by Rev J M Schedler of Trinity Victoria followed by a 5:30 p.m. fellowship barbecue. More than twelve hundred tickets were issued for this event including sixty two from the Shiner Dreyer Lutheran Parish. Proceeds aim to clear the remaining 10000 debt with congregations contributing about two dollars per member.

Two Brothers Drown July 4 In Missouri

Joe Marcak Jr. 21 and his brother Benjamin 14 drowned July 4 while swimming near West Plains Missouri. The brothers were sons of Joe Marcak who moved from Deming New Mexico to Missouri three years ago. Funeral services were attended by Ben and Bill Marcak and Mr and Mrs Ad Pesek.

Mrs. Wagner Receives Papal Medal For Catholic Charity

Mrs. Frank M. Wagner of Shiner is to receive the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Medal in a fall investiture for her support of Catholic education and charity. Other honorees include Daniel H. Plow Show Draws Farmers for Conservation Demonstration

About 150 farmers and businessmen attended the Graham Conservation Special Plow demonstration at the Welhausen Farm on Monday June 28. Louis Dawkins explained chisel plowing to improve root development air and water access and demonstrated a fertilizer feeder attachment for side dressing crops.

Lavaca Farm Bureau crowns Emily Ann Krejci queen

The Lavaca County Farm Bureau held its annual Queen’s Contest and Ball at Shiner American Legion Hall. Emily Ann Krejci was crowned queen by Herman Hanslik with a gift watch. she advances to the District Queen’s Contest in September and will reign during Cotton Week in Hallettsville July 19 to 24.

Humble Presents Texas in Review Sailing on TV

The Humble Company’s Texas in Review TV program will feature Texans enjoying sailing on Texas lakes and waters. Adolph Zander final rites held in Shiner

Adolph Zander 74 died Friday July 2 at local hospital after six weeks illness traced to a 1953 stroke. Born October 15 1879 near Schulenburg he lived in Shiner area most his life. Survivors include two daughters two sisters three brothers and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held July 4 at Buffington Funeral Home and United Dr Martin Luther Church with interment in Shiner.

Pat Kelly Named District Clerk by Holt

Former District Clerk E S Pat Kelly was appointed by District Judge Lester Holt to fill the unexpired term of Joe C Goode through December 31 1954. Goode will appear on the Democratic Primary ballot July 24 but the party will nominate a candidate for the November general election after Goode's death.
