Shiner Baptist Church closes revival with fifteen additions

The Shiner Baptist Church ends a glorious revival Sunday night with fifteen additions nine ten by baptism and one by letter. Sunday School attendance set a record with 79 present. The revival began 90 years ago in August 1853 as Liveoak Baptist Church before moving to Shiner. The anniversary of the pastor’s first year was celebrated with a gift from the men. Baptismal services are planned again Wednesday night after prayer service.

Four Roeder brothers from Shiner join the services during 1942. Pfc Edmund L Roeder entered the Army in March 1942 and serves as Office Clerk at Camp Barkeley. Joe A Roeder 2-c Petty Officer volunteered in the Navy in March 1942 and serves as a bombardier in the Pacific theater. Anton L Roeder volunteered into the Air Corps in October 1942 and is a Foster Field mechanic. Pfc James L Roeder entered in September 1942 and serves as a Tower Radio Operator at Majors Field. Parents Mr and Mrs L M Roeder take pride in their sons fighting for righteousness.

School Per Capita Appropriations Set by Board

The State Board of Education fixed the per capita school appropriation for the coming year at 25 dollars, the maximum allowed by the 48th legislature. Statistician Bob Calvert reported about 7.703 million dollars will remain in the available school fund on September 1, and the fund is in strong condition. The board also planned to consider adoption or readoption of several textbooks.

Kubicek Dies at 46 in Shiner Memorial Rites Held

Joe F Kubicek aged 46 died at Shiner Hospital on Wednesday morning June 23. Funeral from the home of Mr and Mrs Joe Starry of Moulton on Friday June 25 at 9 30 a m with services at St Josephs Church Rev Joseph Kopp officiating. Interment was in Moulton Catholic Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Pauline Rebecek a son Steve Daniel Kubicek his mother Mrs Mary Kubicek six brothers and three sisters.

Judge Arnim Resigns as Fayette County Judge

The Fayette County commissioners accepted the resignation of E. A. Arnim Jr. as county judge. H. W. Pitman, the present county auditor, was appointed to fill the unexpired term. Arnim’s resignation was tendered at the first of the month meeting and takes effect once his successor qualifies. The court recessed until Tuesday at 9 am for the new judge to organize.

Brazilian visitor John Hollman arrives in Brownsville

John G. Hollman of San Paulo Brazil arrived by plane in Brownsville Monday afternoon. He was delayed two days in Panama when his place was given to a man in service. Traveling via Mexico City he then went from Brownsville to Laredo to meet his daughter Clarice and was expected in Shiner Wy. Hollman is scheduled to leave the United States on July 28.
