Patriotic July Fourth Celebration by American Legion

Thousands joined a July 4 celebration in Haletsville led by parade marshals J R Miles Julius Koniakousy and L A Greer. Color guards and a firing squad honored Old Glory as Emblematic Float entries and banners followed. Judge W S Holman spoke for Congress district. Father Ludwig gave a patriotic address. a 3:30 baseball game Shiner 11 Schulenbourg 4 closed the day amid meals and festivities.

Weid Bana Leads City Festivities with Music and Theatre

The event featured a strong Weid Bana appearance and a sustained comic tempo. An esteemed minstrel group and the Band Wagon offered representative performances, drawing notable local citizens to the celebration.

Aid Society Meeting at Methodist Church House

Members of Methodist Aid and church gathered at Mrs Ed Gehrels home in the afternoon to sing hymns read Scripture and pray. Mrs J Co Habemacher led a Bible lesson from Genesis. The piano fund gained seventy eight dollars. committees formed for a veranda concert by the church youth. a palatable lunch raised a neat sum. Out of town guests included Mrs Louise Roos Victoria Mrs Anna Wolters Schulenburg and Miss Cara Wolters Schulenburg Miss Clara Welhausen Eagle Lake.

United Lutheran Sunday Services and July Synod Meeting

Utd Dr Martin Luther church invites attendance at Sunday School at 9 and services at 10 15 a m July 9. The Texas Synod of the United Lutheran Church in America meets July 11 and 12 at Shiner with nightly services at 8 15. Tuesday features German language services by Reus Sievert and Lentz and next Wednesday English and German services by Rev Eberhard and Rev Gentner. W C Woltsdorft, pastor.

Veranda concert raises funds at Herder home

A Monday evening concert at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Mund Herder benefits the Methodist Church piano fund. Admission is 25 cents. Miss Stalla Wolters leads numbers with Mr. P A Wendtland and S A Thulemeyer assisting. Performances include vocal, violin, piano solos and group readings, followed by ice cream and soda.

Willie E. Giese Dies After Illness at 27

Willie E Giese died after a brief illness at 7 20 Monday morning He was 27 years old and served as teacher and assistant superintendent in the Lutheran Sunday School He was manager of the Wagner planing plant and nephew of Mrs Louise Wagner Funeral services were at United Lutheran church at 1 p m Monday and body shipped to Round Top on the afternoon train His wife Geo Etzel of Round Top Rev and Mrs W C Wolfsdorf and Paul Koenig accompanied her A fuller obituary will appear next week

Silver Jubilee Held by Local Lodges at Viastenee Hall

The S P J S T local lodge Viastenee and Shiner lodge Texasky Mir held a joint Silver Jubilee at Viasten ee Hall on Sunday with a large crowd in attendance and a fine free event.

Election eve dinner marks end of Yeakun celebration

A town gathering featured a gram rendered conch to music and declamations while E. J. Motis of Yeakun spoke as part of the day’s events. A baseball game between unnamed teams preceded the grand ball to close the celebration.

Merseburger's Twenty Five Years Service With Southwestern Bell

Friday night June 30 in Shiner a dinner party honored E C Merseburger for twenty five years of continuous local service with Southwestern Bell. Guests included A Bailey Yoakum D M Brown San Antonio and Mrs Ella Lane. remarks praised his work, long tenure starting June 80 1897 with a toll station, and his steady local presence. He declined retirement yet received a retirement emblem and pension offer, while remaining active in the company and community service through school boards and the city council.

Shiner Students From Southwest Texas Arrive For Fourth

Shiner residents from Southwest Texas Normal at San Marcos join in Fourth of July celebrations at home. Among attendees are Misses Elsie Dziewas Alma Canon Ernestine Mergenthaler Ella Remmers Annie Strauss Viola Langhoff Vlasta Ermis Mary Ander Lillian Turk and Mrs Eula Schultze Mr and Mrs Charlie Micek Clifton Monroe and Victor Schroeder Victor Schulze also came from State University for the holiday.
