Plum Catholic Priest In Dangerous Wreck

Rev. P. P. Kasper of Plum Fayette county survived a serious auto wreck near McDade on the Giddings Austin highway while returning from a Buick purchase in Weimar. He and party member Taft were thrown about by a front tire blowout. Kasper was unconscious for hours and bruised. Taft suffered minor injuries. The Buick sustained a broken wheel running board and bent fender but protected occupants, according to reports from the Weimar Mercury via the La Grange Record.

Mr and Mrs Paul Kaspar of Jacksonville Florida arrived Saturday for a few days visit to the parental home. Bul says it cost him more to come from Gonzales to Shiner than from Jacksonville to Dallas and they spent Friday night in their car stuck in mud near home.

Improvements At Shiner Oil Mill Ready For Season

Mgr Arno Wagener says linters and a new Linter Press are being installed at the Shiner Oil Mill. A fire proof brick room with automatic closing fire doors has been built to house the press. The project should be finished within a week and ready for the season’s run.

O S T Meyer late manager of Shiner Lumber Co leaves Sunday for El Campo to take a similar position. Shiner Lumber Co has sold off stock and the yard is closed permanently. Meyer's family cannot move now due to lack of a rental house. Kolar Stanek Post of the American Legion laments the loss of Mr Meyer from the community.

Road Designation Deferred for Future Meeting

J C Blohm of the Shiner Chamber of Commerce led a road committee delegation with Judge Janszen Commissioner Burkett County Engineer Koether and Judge Ramsey of Gonzales to Austin to discuss designating a Gonzales to Hallettsville route. The State Highway Department deferred the matter, Division Engineer McCarty favorable but action blocked by Sterling's absence. District Clerk Chas Strauss joined with the party for related state capital business.
