The Southwestern Bell Telephone Company with the Shiner Baseball Association will host a Town Meeting at 8 00 p m on Wednesday July 1 1964 in the Shiner High School Gymnasium. Management staff will discuss telephone service in Shiner and a science demonstration by Jim Sage will be shown. Light refreshments will be served. Customers may ask questions and learn how the business operates.
Shiner floats took part in the Luling Watermelon Thump Parade with riders Becky Little Beverly Ann Balusek Linda Sue Har bers Jo Ann Rebecek Jacque Cloutier Marian Jo Strauss Ellen Jane Stanek Rhonda Dreyer. Miss Linda Kay Cimrhanzel rode the American Legion float. Duchess Kathryn Person and Duke Walter Henkhaus represented Shiner at the coronation.
Edward O Hirsch of Cuero died Sunday June 28 1964 at Sulphur Park while attending a family reunion He was a retired farmer aged 66 years 9 months and 21 days Funeral services were held June 30 at Buffington Funeral Home Shiner and SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church Burial was in Shiner Catholic Cemetery Pallbearers were Lester Ullmann Walter Buesing Edgar Wenske Daniel Pokluda Freddie Hirsch and Oscar Hirsch Rosary was recited June 29 at 8 p.m. He is survived by his wife Margaret a son Daniel Hirsch two daughters Dorothy Helt and Beatrice Brown twelve grandchildren and several siblings The obituary notes numerous relatives and a religious service sentiment followed by theater listing for The Young Swingers at the Palace Theatre.
Mrs. Wilson R. McComas nee Ella Richter died June 21 1964 at Trinity Lutheran Home aged 83 11 4. Her funeral was at First Methodist Church Shiner with Rev. Edmund Deane officiating and graveside at Shiner City Cemetery. Pallbearers included Jeff Mikulik Eddie Jaks Glenn Wagener Gilbert Kasper Erwin Stratman and Ewald Erdelt. Mrs McComas was born July 17 1880 in Weimar Colorado County Texas and lived in Shiner most of her life. She married Wilson R. McComas in 1915 and after military service they settled in Shiner. She was a lifelong helper to children and sewed garments for relatives and others. Her husband died in 1948 and she resided in the Lutheran Home since 1963. She was survived by a brother Adolph Richter of Shiner and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs Ida Martin age 92 died Wednesday at Flatonia Modern Nursing Home. Funeral Thursday at 3:00 p.m. Buffington Funeral Home Shiner with Rev D I Dolton officiating. Born Freyburg March 11 1872 she was daughter of Anton and Magdalena Schelling. Survivors include three sisters and four brothers. Interment in Shiner City Cemetery. Casket attendants listed.
The American Legion Auxiliary held its regular session June 23 with President Mrs. Georgie Benes presiding. Officers elected: President Mrs. Louis Dusek, with several re-elected officers, and appointments including publicity chairwoman Mrs. Bennie Eicher. Burial at Shiner Catholic Cemetery after military honors by VFW and American Legion posts. Survived by wife Della Merle Robinson Houston mother Mary Jahn Shiner brothers and sisters.
Shiner will close Saturday July 4 in observance of Independence Day. Housewives are urged to shop for necessary groceries on Friday.

Victor Roznovsky, son of Mr and Mrs Steve Roznovsky of Shiner, has been called up from the farm club and joins the Chicago Cubs as catcher. He is expected to appear with the Cubs in Houston on July 24, drawing friends and relatives from Shiner.

A full day of gala entertainment is planned at Legion Park Shiner on Saturday July 4. The event features a 10 30 a m parade downtown with entrants from many nearby cities and locals. Meals include beef stew and barbecued chicken at 11 00 a m and sausage supper at 5 00 p m. Family activities rides and music from the Shiner Hobo Band Joe Patek Orchestra and The Quintettes. The day ends with a big evening dance.
The First Baptist Church of Shiner announces a revival July 5 to July 12 led by evangelist Pastor R A Tindall and singer Dr C D Tisdale. Evening services start at 8:00 p.m. nightly with special music and regular Sunday services. All are welcome to attend and fellowship.
Joe A Schmidt 78 died June 24 1964 at his Rt 2 Victoria home. Requiem Mass will be at Shiner Catholic Church June 27 at 9 30 am officiated by Rev Alphonse Padalecki with grave side rites in Shiner Cemetery. Survivors include four sons Edwin Ewart Edgar Schmidt Daniel Schmidt of Louisiana two sisters Bertha and Emma Schmidt and one brother John Schmidt.
The city will add new sewer and sanitation charges to utility bills within city limits. Rates cover residences and various businesses, with per thousand gallon water charges and unit-based apartment and trailer charges. Bills reflecting the changes go out August 1 1964. (26-21c)

Hugo Schwabe said Schwabe and Mikes Construction Co. won the general contract for the Yoakum airport landing strip at the old Sunset Drive-In site. The bid was 66,191.07 dollars, with a 3,400 by 60 foot area and a 90 working day completion period.
