Liberty Tree Dedication at Shiner City Park

About two hundred first to third graders from Shiner Elementary and St. Ludmila Academy joined a state wide Bicentennial tree planting project. They planted the Liberty Tree and released red white and blue balloons with notes attached.

Grass Fires Reported In Several Local Sites This Week

A series of grass fires are reported from January 22 to January 26 at Ernest Kral's place Joe Tesar's property GVEC Substation on Highway 90A and Clyde Otto farm in Boundary Line area. Authorities urge precautions when burning trash and after smoking while checking electric fences for sparks. Drivers are asked to avoid dry grass areas.

Film On Washington Shown At Shiner Church

A color thirty minute documentary titled City Out of Wilderness Washington will be shown at Shiner Baptist Church on Wednesday February 4 at 7 00 p m. Produced by the United States Capitol Historical Society the film traces Washington from Pierre l Enfant to the Capitol s grandeur and presents the city as the heart of national life as part of a service of patriotic songs. Shiner Hospital Auxiliary held an appreciation dinner at Patek's Restaurant on January 22 at 6 30 p m. Twenty nine members attended. Speakers included Dr. Robert Wag ner John Miler and Mrs Ethelyn Schreib er who praised the volunteers. Total hours volunteered reached 4444 with 100 hour chevrons awarded. Nominees for next year were presented and unanimously approved. Officers elected include President Ray Seale, Vice President John Miler, 2nd VP John Beal, 3rd VP E A Corning, Secretary Treasurer Raymond Dierksen, Historian Robert Wagner, Parliamentarian George Watzlavick.
