Morgenroth Pioneer of Shiner Dies After Illness
Mrs. Maria Morgenroth, born February 26 1842 in Saxony Germany, died after a short illness. A pioneer settler with long Texas ties, she lived in key Fayette and Austin counties before passing at home. Survived by two sons Henry and Emil Sproth, three daughters Emma Lohse Anna Eisen and Louise Morgenroth, fifteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren, plus two sisters and a brother. Funeral conducted by Rev Stelzer at the Missouri Lutheran Church with pallbearers Paul Otto Sr C B Welhausen Herman Eggert Paul Discher Alb Diecher and Joe Hughes.

The XXth Century club met January 16 at Shiner High School with new officers led by Mrs. E. Viters as president and Mrs. Earl Fry as vice president. Miss Emile Schmidt was secretary and Miss Ernestine Hergenthaler assistant secretary. Concluding the session, the group read the first canto of Rape of the Lock. The social program included member conundrums and Bible questions by Mrs. Julia Wolters. The club plans to meet January 30 with Mrs. Anos Koch.
