DeWitt County Sheriff N.G. Dietze retired December 31 1976 after 25 years in law enforcement a farewell gathering January 5 1977 at the DeWitt County jail. Bobby McMahan succeeded him taking office January 1 1977. Dietze began as a Cuero patrolman in the 1950s served as DeWitt and Goliad deputies Yoakum chief of police then DeWitt County sheriff from 1964 until defeated in 1976. He and his wife Charlice Spinks have four children and strong ties to local officials.

Otto Siems of Yoakum Lions Club earned the Lions International Grand Master Key for enrolling 50 new members. An active member since 1948, he has 25 years in Lions, served as club president, and attended over 1,400 meetings. He aims for the 75 member State Key. Brother of Herbert Siems of Shiner. wife Vlasta Ermis is Emil Ermis’s sister.
Patty Jo Harbers, a 1976 Shiner High School graduate and accounting major, earned a 3.9 GPA to make the Fall 1976 Dean's List at Sam Houston State University Huntsville. The list requires at least 12 hours with a 3.0 average. Beverly Ann Seim of Austin visited relatives Balusek and Fric over the weekend.
Infant Jennifer Lynn Kresta and infant Timothy Joe Raindl received holy baptism at Saints Cyril and Methodius in Shiner with two priests officiating and godparents named. Kristi Irene Heiman was baptized at St Marys in Victoria with godparents Emil Slovacek and family listed. the report notes grandparents and great grandparents from Yoakum Hallettsville and Victoria.

Kenneth Howell, 41, named administrator at Bluebonnet Youth Ranch after 12 years as West Texas Boys Ranch superintendent and a decade with Travis County Juvenile Court. Janet Barre named director of public relations, with extensive Victoria Corpus Christi civic work and a Yoakum area private surveying career. Married with three children, Howell hails from Colorado City. Barre is Yoakum native and longtime PTA and Jaycee-Ettes leader.
