Lavaca County Tax Collector Announces 21st Birthday Vote Exemption

Steve Bennett, Lavaca County tax collector, asks the Gazette to publish that anyone turning 21 since February 1, 1915 or turning 21 before the July 1916 primary is eligible to vote in the next primary if they obtain an exemption certificate before February 1, 1916. There is no charge for the certificate.

Sigut and Havel Married Quietly at Catholic Church

Frank Sigut a Waco businessman and Annie Havel daughter of John Havel Route 1 near Shiner were married Tuesday morning at the Catholic church by Rev Father Machan. The couple left for Cameron and Houston and will make their future home in Waco.

Special Meeting of Fair Association Committees

City Hall will host a special meeting of Fair Association committees Thursday night January 20 to discuss and perfect plans for the June Fair. Committee chairmen Peck Welhausen J C Blohm E J Merrem D Garbade H H Striebeck Ed Herder J Garbade Arno Wagener O H Deutsch E C Merseburger and Victor Wolters are urged to ensure member attendance. Shiner is predicted for a big fair success.

Fire on East Side Destroys Stable

A stable owned by Mr. Spoetael, manager of the Shiner Brewery, burned around 9 o clock last Tuesday morning. Firefighters responded swiftly, saving the nearby residence though it was badly scorched. Loss described as light and the cause unknown.

Death of Henrietta Liebscher 1835 1916

Mrs. Henrietta Liebscher aged eight ear, died Thursday afternoon after a brief illness. Born in Saxony she came to Texas about 43, lived near Giddings before moving to Shiner. Survived by two daughters, three sons, sixteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren. Funeral held at Schramm home then Giddings cemetery with Lutheran service. The Gazette extends condolences as influenza widens.
