Charles J Kostak Sr aged 65 6 1 was pronounced dead January 15 1961 at Dr Frank Wagner Memorial Hospital Shiner He formerly of Prague born 1895 came to the U S in 1905 He is survived by three children all of Houston eight grandchildren and a brother in Dallas Funeral services were held at Buffington Funeral Home Shiner and Shiner Catholic Church with Knights of Columbus rosaries observed both nights.

Southwest Texas State Band Heads to Presidential Inaugural Parade
The 153 member Southwest Texas State College Band and its three units will appear in the inaugural parade Friday in Washington along with the SWT Strutters. Led by Drum Major Kathy Mahan the group from Texas will perform tunes like Giant and The Eyes of Texas as the parade follows the inaugural events.

A Social Security Office representative from Victoria will meet residents at City Hall in Shiner at 9 a.m. Monday January 23 to help file retirement survivor or disability claims. Eligible disabled workers and dependents may qualify under the 1960 amendments with five of ten years worked prior to disability. The Victoria office is at 112 East Forrest Street.

Dies Suddenly at 58 Otto Turek Remembered at Shiner Funeral
Otto Turek 58 died in his sleep January 11 1961 after a hospital illness in San Antonio. The Shiner resident was a Tex Tan employee and active in the Methodist Church Cub Scouts and Little League. Funeral services were held January 12 at the Methodist Church with burial in the SPJST Cemetery. Survivors include his wife two sons Michael and Billy a daughter Barbara and three sisters.

Lutheran Church Annual Meeting Results And Recommendations
United Dr. Martin Luther Church held its annual meeting last Sunday after noon to review 1960 reports showing growth in membership attendance and finances though the budget goal was not fully met. Five recommendations were approved including by law changes to align the constitution with Texas Non-Profit Act and a pledge of full support to the church council to implement required steps.

Two killed when a Missouri Pacific freight train struck a car at a fog shrouded crossing near Dayton Texas. Vandals shot out crossing lights Friday night and investigators filed negligent homicide charges against two men from Edna and Dayton. The Branecky couple of San Antonio were en route to Florida.
