Yoakum Girl Makes Record In College Music Circles

Miss Melba Welhausen, a Baylor University freshman violinist, has earned rising notices in college music circles. She has played before President Brooks and at weekly events, impressing critics with poise and performance. An adopted Yoakum resident, she trained under Stella Wolters in Shiner and has given numerous artistic engagements there.

Safety First Play At City Auditorium Draws Crowd

News from the school notes exams start next week and half the year is over. A major secret at the school is hinted. The audience is invited to see Safety First at City Auditorium Saturday at 7 45 with low admission for children and adults. Basketball results show Schulenburg 28 Shiner 26 with upcoming rematch anticipated. A lighthearted exchange about a junior and senior concludes the item.

Rose Zada Celebrates Eighteenth Birthday Party

Seven girls surprised Rose Zada with a Saturday night birthday party on the Schlapota porch. Two bridge tables were set, Ruby Rogge won a bud vase for the highest score, Gertrude Kasper earned a red rose for booby, and guests departed by ten. Her mother is praised for the entertaining. Also noted are visits by Erwin J. Henkhaus and G. W. Eschenburg, and Rev. Crowder’s community visit.

Brave Fight For Life After Severe Burns

Mrs. Harry Stamper of Wichita Falls was badly burned when her clothing ignited near a gas grate during very cold weather. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Daniel, were notified. Mr. Daniel traveled on the day following. Physicians have attempted skin grafting as she remains severely ill.

Shiner Fair Plans Promoted At Commercial Club Meet

In a country round, farmers discuss the Shiner Fair to be held next June and preparations are underway now. The Commercial Club resumes Feb 2 with plans to organize a big fair and set definite dates at the meeting. Citizens are urged to attend and contribute ideas.

Mrs O W Dreyer hosted the Tuesday Bridge Club with four tables of players enjoying an afternoon.
