Mrs Valesta H James of North Hollywood California broke her right wrist and writes with her left hand to renew her subscription. Mr and Mrs John F Muenich of Point Comfort send New Year wishes to Gazette staff and Shiner friends. They say they enjoy Thursday morning hometown news.
A Social Security representative from Victoria Texas will visit Shiner City Hall at 9 AM on Monday January 16 1967 to assist residents in filing retirement survivor disability or Medicare claims. The note explains Medicare extended care benefits for eligible hospital patients and outlines limits and conditions.
The Westhoff American Legion sponsors a dance at the American Legion Hall in Westhoff on Sunday January 15 from 6 to 10 p.m. Music by the Markmann Polkateers of San Antonio the originators of No Beer in Heaven. Admission is $1.00 per person. Refreshments available. See ad elsewhere.
Two brothers in law who married twin sisters on November 14, 1922 died within hours of each other after a weekend in January 1967. Funeral rites were held for Tom Frank Mizera in Gonzales and Emil L Konvicka in Hallettsville with Catholic services and family survivors listed.
More than two million veterans and dependents on the VA pension rolls will receive income report cards with November checks. They must be returned by January 31 or the pension will stop. The forms are simplified for fast automatic processing and must not be damaged.
Texas motorists were told by Col Homer Garri son Jr of the Texas Department of Public Safety that most vehicles have not yet been inspected for the 1967 sticker. With two-thirds of the period passed and 14 weeks left until the April 15 deadline, about one-third of vehicles are inspected and more weekly inspections are needed to avoid crowding at the end.

Robert Sims 29 an employee of Coastal States Gas Co. Corpus Christi died in a two car collision on Farm Road 893 in Portland. The other driver Mrs Sylvia Cantu Galindo of Portland was unhurt. Sims died when his car overturned after she reached for a child loosening control. Funeral 4 p m Saturday at Goodwin Funeral Chapel Linton. Burial Evergreen Cemetery Odem. Surviving wife Betty Freeman Sims a brother Frank Sims Jr. Houston three sisters and his parents.

Mrs. Frank Miculka age 81 died December 24 1966 after a lengthy illness. Funeral Mass at Shiner Catholic Church and burial in St. Josephs Cemetery Moulton. Survived by five children fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Burial followed at St Josephs Cemetery Moulton.
The SHS Juniors sponsor a Junior High Tournament on January 19 20 and 21 with many town teams participating. Food will be available and the event invites community support for the junior class.
The 1967 school census runs in January to count and enroll all children ages 6 through 18 as of September 1 1967. Mrs Edward Kasper heads the census and will visit homes to enroll first graders for September. Parents of eligible children should contact the census taker before January 31 if not contacted by January 20.

Robert E. McMaster of Yoakum died December 22 1966 at Huth Memorial Hospital aged 93. Funeral services were held December 23 at Buffington Chapel Yoakum with Rev Ervin M Jordan officiating. Burial followed at St Josephs Catholic Cemetery Yoakum. He was born March 7 1873 in Thomaston DeWitt County Texas and lived in Yoakum since 1899. He was married to Susie Louise May who died 1945. Survivors include two sons three daughters eleven grandchildren twenty great grandchildren and several siblings and nephews. He was a retired cattleman and rancher.
Funeral services for Christian Paasch age 88 8 months 28 days of Freisburg were conducted Thursday December 29 1966 at 2 00 p m from the Columbus Funeral Home with Rev H L Anderson of St Pauls Lutheran Church officiating Burial followed at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery He died Tuesday December 27 at Youens Memorial Hospital Weimar He was born March 29 1878 in Freisburg Survivors include sister Miss Emily Paasch and five brothers Henry William Otto George and John all of Freisburg Bearers were Paul Gerhold Arthur Freye Julius Se Henry Parker Schulte and Richard Paasch.
Postmaster Arthur Ward of Shiner announced new parcel post rates and a ZIP Code based zone method effective January 15 under 1966 legislation. Rates rise about 10 cents per parcel, with local deliveries at 40 cents and distant zones up to $1.05, applying to air parcel post and catalogs, benefiting 39 offices in the Victoria center. The system uses the first three ZIP digits to identify zones, replacing the old directory method. The change is projected to bring $74 million annually to the Post Office Department to help meet cost targets.
Lavaca County tax assessor collector Mrs Frances J Polasek and deputies will be in Shiner January 11 and 12 to assess state and county taxes for 1967. Benno Holchak and Wilbur Minear attended the funeral for Clifton Monroe, former Shiner resident, in Lockhart Sunday.
