Social Security Officer Visit in Shiner Jan 16

A Social Security representative from Victoria Texas will visit Shiner City Hall at 9 AM on Monday January 16 1967 to assist residents in filing retirement survivor disability or Medicare claims. Death toll marks hours as brothers in law die twins

Two brothers in law who married twin sisters on November 14, 1922 died within hours of each other after a weekend in January 1967. Funeral rites were held for Tom Frank Mizera in Gonzales and Emil L Konvicka in Hallettsville with Catholic services and family survivors listed.

Texans urged to complete 1967 vehicle inspections early

Texas motorists were told by Col Homer Garri son Jr of the Texas Department of Public Safety that most vehicles have not yet been inspected for the 1967 sticker. With two-thirds of the period passed and 14 weeks left until the April 15 deadline, about one-third of vehicles are inspected and more weekly inspections are needed to avoid crowding at the end.

Odem Man Killed in Farm Road 893 Crash

Robert Sims 29 an employee of Coastal States Gas Co. Corpus Christi died in a two car collision on Farm Road 893 in Portland. The other driver Mrs Sylvia Cantu Galindo of Portland was unhurt. Mrs. Frank Miculka age 81 died December 24 1966 after a lengthy illness. Funeral Mass at Shiner Catholic Church and burial in St. Josephs Cemetery Moulton. Survived by five children fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Burial followed at St Josephs Cemetery Moulton.

The 1967 school census runs in January to count and enroll all children ages 6 through 18 as of September 1 1967. Mrs Edward Kasper heads the census and will visit homes to enroll first graders for September. Services Held For Native Texan Robert McMaster

Robert E. McMaster of Yoakum died December 22 1966 at Huth Memorial Hospital aged 93. Funeral services were held December 23 at Buffington Chapel Yoakum with Rev Ervin M Jordan officiating. Burial followed at St Josephs Catholic Cemetery Yoakum. He was born March 7 1873 in Thomaston DeWitt County Texas and lived in Yoakum since 1899. He was married to Susie Louise May who died 1945. Survivors include two sons three daughters eleven grandchildren twenty great grandchildren and several siblings and nephews. He was a retired cattleman and rancher.

Parcel Post Rates Rise with ZIP Code Zone System

Postmaster Arthur Ward of Shiner announced new parcel post rates and a ZIP Code based zone method effective January 15 under 1966 legislation. Rates rise about 10 cents per parcel, with local deliveries at 40 cents and distant zones up to $1.05, applying to air parcel post and catalogs, benefiting 39 offices in the Victoria center. The system uses the first three ZIP digits to identify zones, replacing the old directory method. The change is projected to bring $74 million annually to the Post Office Department to help meet cost targets.
