County Agent Parks invites cotton producers and landlords to meetings at Shiner City Hall at 7:30 tonight and at the Sweet Home school on Friday night January 12 at 7:30 to learn the 1934 35 reduction contracts. The program stresses firsthand information as the initial details have changed and urges attendees to bring neighbors.
Eugene Tom Janak, three years old, was seriously hurt last Thursday afternoon after running into a car driven by Ed Herder of Shiner near Hallettsville. He struck the rear fender and was thrown to the concrete, suffering a cracked skull and broken ribs. He was treated at Dr. Renger’s hospital and, by Tuesday, was reported out of danger and on the road to recovery.
The first meeting of the year will be held tonight at 6 30 at the Goude lock Cafe. Dues for 1933 are reported collected in full. A large attendance is urged as important business is on the slate. City and school taxes in Shiner become delinquent February 1 with a 10 percent penalty. pay by January 31 to avoid delinquent list.
The Lutheran Brotherhood of Shiner held its regular third Tuesday session at Luther Hall to reorganize. Rev Schuetze led with the 23rd Psalm. officers elected were Pres Fred Krause V Pres H A Hirsch Sec Walter Brumkenhoefer Treas Otto Fisseler. Monthly dues set. next meeting planned for January on the third Tuesday at 7 pm.
At the regular election of officers, the Cemetery Association re elected all existing leaders. President Mrs. C. B. Welhausen Vice President Mrs. E. P. Wolters Treasurer Mrs. Peck Welhausen Secretary Mrs. Elo Wolters. Paramount conducted a nationwide search for the right type of girls for 8 Gilsonato at Palac'haate weekend visitors included Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Kastohryz and family of WestCommerce among Yuletide guests.
The Midway Canning Club will gather next Friday at 1 P M at Mrs John Mareks home. Miss Pfinger will attend. Participants will make cheese and a discussion on food will be held.
Tomato planting enthusiasts are urged to meet at the old city hall in Shiner next Saturday afternoon January 18 at 4 o clock. The Chamber of Commerce hopes many sign up for tomato acreage and invites all to bring neighbors. You will learn something even if you do not sign.
Edmund Kram thanks friends and customers for kindness and patronage during residence in Shine. Invites visits at Hallettsville’s Chevrolet Station Heye and Zuraba. Also thanks Mr and Mrs F W Ficha Miss Idella and sons Milton and Davis for spending New Year holidays with Mr and Mrs Otto Hanna and family of Flatonia.
The church lists Sunday School at 9 30 a m and Divine Service at 10 30 a m with installation of new officers. Sunday night service at 7 o clock in English at Dreyer. Tuesday 7 pm Brotherhood meeting. Wednesday choir practice. Saturday confirmation class at 9 am at Shiner 1 pm Rev Richard Schuetze.

The Immanuel Lutheran Church will hold a German service with Holy Communion on Sunday January 14 at 10 30 a m and confirmation instruction at 9 30 a m A business meeting of voting members follows the service Pastor Bohot will lead the proceedings and deliver the sermon
An appreciation note thanks carolers for midnight oil greetings on Christmas Eve. Rev. Richard Schuetze, Mr and Mrs W A Krause and their daughter Lillian of San Antonio visited the John Novak home during the holidays. Miss Annie Stuter spent last weekend with Mrs C L Williams and resumed school after an appendix operation during the holidays.
City Tax Collector J. M Canon reports $1900 in delinquent city and school taxes collected to date. This is unusual for Shiner as delinquent taxes had never amounted to much before last year. The report marks a sign of improved finances.
A Bay City Tribune excerpt urges readers to pay the poll tax as a New Year's gift to themselves, framing it as participation in the civic fight for better government. It condemns apathy and calls Gazette readers to civic responsibility, aligning with Editor Smith's admonition.
Reginald F Bourke of Yoakum joins the Lavaca County race for Representative. He is accompanied by Joseph Muras. Announcement to appear in the Gazette with a future outline of his platform.
Representative Mansfield of Texas, Democratic chairman of the House Rivers and Harbors Committee, was injured in an automobile accident in Alexandria Virginia. Hospital officials reported his condition not serious with a lacerated neck and ear after his car skidded into a parked machine on Washington Street.
The Chamber of Commerce sponsors the President's Birthday Ball on Tuesday January 30 to raise funds for the Warm Springs Foundation. A nationwide party directed by a national committee and local committees aims to support President Roosevelt and his efforts to stabilize American business and industry. The director general and chairmen will be announced next week.
L E Denmark has been appointed Director General of the President s Ball for Shiner by National Headquarters. The appointment arrived by air mail Monday. He selected Edwin Wolters as treasurer and other committee posts will be announced next week.

Gus J Strauss announces candidacy for re election as Lavaca County District Clerk subject to the Democratic primary. He currently holds the post, appointed to fill the unexpired term of his ill father Chas J Strauss, and argues his experience and education qualify him to continue serving the people.
Commissioner Gus Seim oversees intensive road labor across South Mustang Road and Cemetery road at Yoakum Mt Olive road and Shiner Cemetery road with 60, 55 or 60, 30 and 40 workers respectively. He notes a county allotment for 700 men and that Precincts 3 and 7 are due 241 but has not yet received that allocation. Some projects may finish within 10 days while more projects await approval.
City Street Commissioner Kasper oversaw sanitation, storm sewer, and drainage work under the PWA. By Monday at noon the pond near the oil mill was filled in, along with the school and residence flats near Rocky Creek. A 4 foot by 6 foot drainage ditch stretching about one mile carries water from the Kubecka place through Welhausen land to the creek, with 40 men employed on the project. Additional proposals await approval.
A Gazette report notes all submitted projects approved prompting street commissioner Kasper to begin sand stone Ave E from the Catholic church to Jos Muras corner. Commissioner Seim will approve a blanket project covering miles of lateral roads near Shiner. Each Saturday payroll from the C W A Fund in Shiner totals 1200 dollars.
