Crowded entrances at Catholic and Methodist churches as parishioners filled midnight services. Dr. Martin Luther King Day? The Old, Old Story and shadow pictures drew large audiences. Carolers rendered popular Christmas pieces. ministers aimed to visit the sick though demand exceeded time. Next year singers to be split into two groups.
Baptist Church schedules preaching services on January 7 with Rev Steinhoff at the pulpit. Morning service at 11 o clock will observe the Lord's Supper. Evening service at 7 30 p m. All members are urged to be present.

The Annual Fireman's Ball at Bluecher Park on New Year's Eve was the most largely attended in recent years. Gross receipts reached 351.55 dollars with about 500 dance tickets sold. Net receipts will be around 250 dollars. Everyone enjoyed the event and a spirit of cheer and goodwill prevailed.
The O E S chapter holds its first meeting of the year next Tuesday night January 9 with a large turnout urged to prepare for the February visit of the District Deputy. Mrs Tommie Amsler is on the agenda and serving as W M.

District Clerk Chas. Strauss resigns on December 28 due to ill health. District Judge Holt appoints Gus Strauss to fill the unexpired term, with Gus already handling office business since last September.

The first meeting of the New Year will be Thursday of next week at the High School. It will be the annual dues payment with a large response requested. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Zappe and Miss Mildred Hallettsville were weekend guests in the E. Wendtland Jr. residence, presiding.

O C Henkhaus underwent a major operation in Temple after holidays travel from Houston and Shiner. Three blood transfusions were needed with Walter Henkhaus donating. He remains in serious condition with a second operation possible in weeks while Mrs. Henkhaus stays nearby. Holiday visitors at O A Brieger’s included Koch and Mueller families from Austin San Antonio Orange Grove Cuero.
The holidays brought anxiety to the Green family in Lubbock as Dickson Green Jr fell ill on December 19 and was treated for spinal meningitis after a rapid decline. While his parents rushed from Dallas, there was cautious optimism as a New Year update suggested slight improvement, though a funeral for Mrs. Green's father had occurred. The community in Shiner remains hopeful for a full recovery for the well liked boy.
Walter Mueller, staying with his sister near Wilson, returned home for Christmas with his parents Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Mueller. He fell ill recently and was taken to the local hospital. By Monday his condition worsened to spinal meningitis, and his family and community await his recovery as a fine New Year rain falls.
The Gazette reports the death of Walter Mueller aged 20 years 9 months and 7 days who died Wednesday morning around 7 o clock. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon January 4 at 2 o'clock from Eschenburg funeral parlor.
Miss Vivian Gooden of Sheffield joined Mr and Mrs Edward Berckenhoff for the holidays.
Miss Hertha Gerum arrived from San Antonio to spend Christmas holidays.
Bluecher Lodge will install its officers next Sunday afternoon January 7 at 8 oclock. Immediately after, the Park Verein will elect its officers. Full attendance of the membership is desired.
The annual stockholders meeting of Shiner Compress and Warehouse Company will be held in their office at Shiner Texas on Wednesday January 10 at 3 PM. The notice calls for attendance by shareholders to discuss company matters and vote on items presented.
F F Michna and wife spent the holidays with Cisterna relatives. Miss Alf Christian and mother joined Elgin and Houston relatives for the Yuletide. Charles and Steve Zaruba, Frankie and Mrs G Pavlicek of Sealy attended the funeral of Anton Pollak.
