Judge C C Clamp of San Antonio commends Shiner Texas for civic improvements. He lauds a small city context showing $30,000 city hall, $10,000 street work, $15,000 light and water plant, a $3,500 fire engine, and a $40,000 sewerage project, noting low salaries for mayor and council.
Janitors at the Palace Theatre found a gasoline soaked rug with papers planted at the orchestra pit New Year’s morning. Flames scorched the ceiling while the nonflammable rug remained intact beyond the pit area. Authorities deem it a crude mischief by youths with potential to endanger the block.
Mr and Mrs Chas Sismilick and children and Mrs Sismilick Sr of San Antonio visited the Jos Muras home last week along with Mr and Mrs Louis Ermis and children of Robstown.
Ideal Yule tide weather brought worshipers in large numbers to multiple churches. United Lutheran Church’s Christmas tree and Sunday School program at City Hall drew a standing room only crowd. Catholic Church held a midnight Mass with orchestra music. Methodist Church hosted a Sunday school program Christmas tree and Santa Claus to an ample audience.
The regular stockholders meeting of the Shiner Compress and Warehouse Co. will be held in their office at Shiner Texas on Tuesday January 14 1930 at 3 o clock.
The Parent Teachers Association holds its first meeting of the New Year today after school, at 3 45 P M. A large attendance is desired.
B H Wenectland Chas E Sandford and W L Kaspar of Dallas spent the Yuletide in their parental homes. August Colossi and wife of Victoria and Miss Daisy Louise Brown of Cuero visited relatives during the holidays.
Shiner enters 1930 amid major road projects and power upgrades. The 11 mile Highway 109 corridor nears completion with bridges and widening work funded by local cooperation with Gonzales County. City buys a second 360 HP Fairbanks Morse engine to boost the municipal plant and supports broader electric expansion, while the Hatchery plans a 12,000 egg incubator as poultry production grows.
Reverend Louis Blinka progressed from St. Ludmila's elementary schooling to St. John's Seminary in San Antonio. He studied philosophy at St. Meinard's in Indiana, then theology at St. John's. Ordained December 23, 1929, he preached his first sermon December 26 titled The Love of God to a large parish audience.
