Fatal Farm Accident Claims 49YearOld Renter

On a Florian Baros farm near Koker not a farm worker, Joseph Gaidus, 49, was injured when a stalk cutter pulled him under its wheel as his team bolted. Neighbors freed him, but he died about 3 pm. Funeral held Sunday at Catholic Cemetery in Shiner. His son, 18, was ill with influenza.

Obituary recalling Rev. William Dziewas born in Dopken Germany age 53, died Dec 29 1919. He served congregations in Charlottenburg Breslau Gonzales Cost and founded Dr Martin Luther Church in Shiner. Survived by wife Emma Breitkreutz and five children William Jr Theodore Hisse Irma Victor. funeral Dec 30 with multiple clergy and large attendance.

George Farmer Burgess Dies in Gonzales Texas

George Farmer Burgess former congressman from this district died at his Gonzales home after a lengthy illness. Born in Wharton Texas fifty six years ago he moved here as a young man and became county attorney at 21. He served sixteen years in Congress on rivers and harbors. He married Lula Sims in 1888 and is survived by his wife and mother Mary Wesson. Funeral services scheduled for January 2.

Honored Retiring Postmaster

At about four in the afternoon of December 41st four rural carriers seized Ed Herder and, with bodily force, forced him to accept a token of appreciation for his long service to the boys. Present were Joe Hughs, Henry Rogge, Otto Fissler, Henry Hirsch, and Acting Postmaster T. J. Ponton.

Edmund Herder resigns after five years as postmaster and twenty two years in the local office. T. J. Ponton becomes acting postmaster at year end. Ponton attends to office duties with Ella Lane and Erna Eschenburg remaining on staff.

Shiner Literary Society Christmas Program

The Shiner Literary Society held a December 24 meeting with a Christmas program including a Berceuse from Jocelyn by Louise Thulemeyer, Topics in Brief by Sydonia Kischenburg and others, a reading by Emil Ehlers, and a report on activities by Professor Leslie.
