An auto wreck near Shiner between Shiner and Oulton injured two men. James Rossman of this place drove off the bridge as his companion John Petra was cut about the face. The vehicle was almost entirely demolished.

Lavaca County Population Rise in Fourteenth Census

The 1920 census shows Lavaca County population at 28,964, up 2,546 from 1910. Males 14,562 and females 14,402. native born 21,450, foreign born 3,538. Negroes 3,975 with 2,007 men and 1,968 women. A Chinaman resided at Hallettsville.

Shooting at Engle Injures William Maii at Bunk House

Last Friday between seven and eight, William Maii a section hand at Engle, was shot at his bunk house door by an unknown assailant. The 38 caliber pistol bullet struck him below the heart. Medical aid from Schulenburg attended. Maii is reported recovering. Authorities are investigating and seeking clues about the gunman.
