Richter to Quit at Gonzales Warm Springs

Walter H. Richter of Gonzales resigns as executive director of the Gonzales Warm Springs Foundation to run for state senator. Effective January 1 R. D. Hardin of Austin becomes acting executive director. Richter states the move aims to prevent political disagreements from hindering donations.

Comanches End Pre District Play

The Shiner Comanches finished pre district play with nine wins and two losses. They defeated Yoakum, St Josephs, Flatonia, Hallettsville, Round Top Carmine and Waelder, with two losses to Weimar and Judson. The team earned a third place at the Moulton tournament and set strong scoring and rebounding marks led by David Garbade. The B team also posted four straight wins. They resume Jan 3 at Del Valle and host Moulton Jan 5 with a girls game at 6 30 p.m. Admission 50 cents adults 25 cents students.

The 24 A football players from Schulenburg Bastrop Del Valle Schulenburg Smithville were honored at a banquet on Wednesday December 13 at the Shiner High School Cafetorium. Administrators and coaches attended. Each player received a certificate presented by District Chairman Supt. Blackman of Smithville.

Miss Ida Reichardt R N administrator of Fayette Memorial Hospital received a Christmas surprise from the Hospital Auxiliary. They presented a gift to the hospital in memory of her twenty five years of service and dedication.

The Fayette Memorial Hospital Auxiliary gifts include a silver punch bowl honoring Ida Reichardt RN twenty five years service September 11 1961 with additional cups and labels from La Grange Medical Society. The bowl debuted at the hospital Christmas party for employees.

Methodist Attendance Campaign Begins Sunday

The 16 week Attendance Campaign adapts John Wesley’s Covenant service at the Methodist Church starting this Sunday January 7 1962 and ending Easter Sunday April 22. Rev John Gilbert hopes to boost local Methodist attendance toward 75 percent with letters pulpit appeals and progress charts in the church bulletin and narthex.

Victor C. Novak W5ELN received the DX Century Club certificate from ARRL for two way contacts with 126 countries since May 1954. Contacts used voice and International Morse Code under ARRL HQ West Hartford Connecticut guidance and Charles W. Kram W5TFZ helped him obtain his license.

Deer Hunt Fatal Gun Accident Kills Hempstead Youth

Jerry Wayne Bryant 15 of Hempstead died in a hunting accident on a deer stand seven miles south of Rock Island Colorado County just after daylight on the last day of deer season. He pulled his .30-30 rifle into his 18 foot high stand causing a bullet to enter under the chin and exit the forehead. Sheriff officers said the shooting was accidental and the body was taken to Wheeler Funeral Home in El Campo. Survivors include his parents Mrs. and Mrs. A. M. Bryant of Hempstead and siblings Johnny Bryant of Houston and Barbara Bryant.
