The obituary notes Mrs Christine Hauschildt born June 27 1858 in Gomsen Province Germany who moved to America with her parents and settled in Fayette County. She married Brit Hauschildt on November 17 1876, they had 13 children. She died December 24 and her remains were laid to rest December 26 with Rev Wm Dziewas conducting services.

A New York City holiday period passed with calm events though minor disturbances were reported. Officials noted no unusual activity and residents spent the day in routine celebrations and rest.
A letter from Company M 860 Infantry recounts Sergeant Edgar F. Merrem of Shiner Texas wounded September 18 1918 and mortally wounded, dying September 16 after being struck by shell fire. He was praised as cool brave and an able Gas Non Commissioned Officer who inspired his unit. The note salutes his sacrifice and extends condolences to his wife and child while honoring his service to country.
A U S Army captain writes to Mrs Merrem expressing deepest sympathy and extends condolences for a victory now assured. The note closes with formal regards and the sender's rank and name.
The Public Schools of Shiver will open next Monday January 6 for both white and colored students resuming classes.
Officials and patrons complain of loud disturbance in the post office lobby caused by a crowd of youths during mail arrivals and deliveries. The government requests a police officer be stationed there to maintain order.
Miss Aminda Henrietta Ehlers and Lieutenant Paul Hogens wed at 4 30 p m Monday in Yoakum Lutheran Church with Rev Wollsdorf officiating. The ceremony surprised guests as Hogens was on Christmas furlough. A wine supper followed at Mr and Mrs Barneat Hogens home. They depart on the 6 o'clock train for Camp Merritt New Jersey with the groom to remain in service for months. Miss Ehlers is daughter of Mr and Mrs Louis Ehlers.
Rev Rector will preach next Sunday night and the public is cordially invited. Christmas day with relatives. They were accompanied home by Chas Holchak.
The Shiner Branch and Bohemian Auxiliary raised after the Roll Call with 1484 answered for the Shiner Branch and 98 for the Bohemian Auxiliary. Mrs Elo Wolters thanks volunteers in Shiner and districts for support as the Red Cross looks to a new era and peacetime service.
The Senior League was entertained Monday night with Miss Mabel Merrem as hostess. On the same night at the home of Mr and Mrs Edmund Herder Miss Elvera Herder was hostess to the Junior League.
Pius Kram born 1851 in Hessen Nassau Germany died at his son Frederick Kram’s home in Shiner after a lingering illness. He married Carolina Ruth in 1877 and is survived by six children, four living including Frederick and Charles of Shiner and William of Moulton, plus a daughter Mrs Oncken. A charter member and former secretary of St Joseph Society he attended his funeral at St Joseph Church with a high requiem and was buried in the Catholic Cemetery.
A group of young people surprised Lieutenant Huepner at his parents home in a warm welcome and appreciation for his service. Christmas cheer filled the Louis Trautwein and Hollman homes as relatives arrived from Baylor University and Yoakum for holiday visits.
