The Shiner Gazette reports the death of Mr. Helweg aged 67 years, born December 8 1851 in Wittenburg Pro-Wandenburg Germany. He came to America, settled at Half Moon, Shiner, and married Mise Luedecke. He had two sons serving in the U S Army and was remembered for his cordial nature and patriotism.
The paper offers condolences to the bereaved wife and children and sends special thoughts to the two sons who are overseas, awaiting the sad Christmas message.
A demonstration of Anti-Hog Cholera Serum will be given Saturday afternoon Dec 21 at Shiner by Dr L H Baker Veterinary Inspector of the Bureau of Animal Industry who oversees hog cholera control in the Houston District Losses from Hog Cholera can be prevented by the serum and several hogs have died recently in the Shiner area All hog raisers are urged to attend
The family expresses gratitude to those who assisted during the illness and burial of their little daughter Welters and Mrs J M Canon receive thanks for their kindness and support.

Ed Herder announces his resignation as postmaster, effective December 29, 1918, with Civil Service exams postponed until returning soldiers can apply. He has served twenty-one years, plans to devote time to his Ford business, and thanks supporters and patrons for their aid while urging a future postmaster in Shiner aligned with national service.
The page includes Pvt Arthur A Hingst of Sweet Home Texas describing wartime experiences in France and awaiting pay, plus a death notice for Oscar Albritton and an obituary for Josef R Klos noting flu complications. Interment is at an O D H lodge member’s funeral with Father Wolf officiating.
