Boy Scout Troop 232 and Cub Scouts 232 will attend Holy Communion at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. A.C.C.W. Convention set for March 9–10 at the Gunter Hotel, San Antonio. World Day of Prayer observed March 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Methodist Church with nursery provided.
At 7 30 p m Tuesday March 5 Shiner High School will host its annual student vs faculty basketball game in the gym. Former student and UT assistant coach James Gandy will face this year s team along with men s faculty players David Little Melvin White Robert Bubolz Ed Browder John D Robertson and Richard Means. Carolyn Baumann P E will lead the girls team against the student girls who placed 2nd in district. The public is invited to attend this senior class sponsored event for entertainment.
Baseball season nears as the Shiner Clippers call an organizational meeting at Shiner City Hall on Sunday March 3 at 2 30 p m. Players directors and fans are urged to attend.
NASA Manned Space Flight Center will send Spacecraft 6 to Shiner for display at the St. Ludmila Academy Science Fair. Public relations chief Robert Gordon said the capsule would arrive by Air Force truck and be shown at the Shiner Catholic Parish Gymnasium on Sunday March 10 with other student science projects.

More than 130 Cub Packs, Boy Scout Troops and Explorer units from 15-county Capitol Area Council prepare for SCOUT-O-RAMA in Austin City Auditorium on March 15 and 16. Shiner Troop 232 will present Fingerprinting and showcase topics like Dutch oven cooking, electronics and geology with a 50 by 20 foot suspension rope bridge.
Mrs Max Walla of Schulenburg sustained multiple injuries in a car accident near Flatonia on Monday night. She underwent surgery at Victoria Hospital on Tuesday and is listed in extremely serious condition. her husband remains hospitalized.
Frank A. Dusek and Marie L Wagner were laid to rest in Shiner after a long marriage begun in 1908. The couple raised three children and shared 54 years on a farm in Lavaca County. Both were active Catholics with community ties and family survivors include two children, five grandchildren, and siblings.
Latane Temple praises Streng for his people oriented approach as manager of the Temple yard. A native of Muenster Texas he started with Temple Lumber in 1939. He is active in the Businessmen's Club of Shiner the Shiner Chamber of Commerce Knights of Columbus Texas Farm Bureau and the PTC. He and his wife Henrietta have two children. Temple Lumber operates 34 retail yards across Texas. Scotch Investment Company develops Emerald Cove a 22 acre bayfront site in Corpus Christi.
The Shiner High School Student Council will sponsor a bookfair in the high school library from March 5 to March 7 during school hours. About 250 paperback books across 29 classifications will be on display and sold at regular paperback prices. On Thursday night March 7 the fair will stay open 6 30 to 8 30 for open house attendees to browse and buy.
Funeral services for Friedrich Richard Pfuhl were held at the Buffington Funeral Home in Shiner with Rev. Edwin J. Oehlke officiating. Burial followed in Shiner City Cemetery. Pfuhl, born July 14 1877 in Leipzig, Germany, settled in Lavaca County after immigrating in 1890. He was married to Mary Huseman in 1908 and survived by wife, three sons, two daughters, ten grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He farmed most his life and lived in Shiner since 1954 except for 1925 1936 in Orange Grove.
A city election in Shiner is ordered for Tuesday April 2 1963 to elect a mayor city secretary and three aldermen. Mayor Arthur Kaspar city secretary Erwin Stratman and aldermen Ben Marcak Percy Garbade and James Burke may stand for re election with filings due by March 2 1963.
The Hochheim Prairie Mutual Fire and Storm Insurance Branch 1 holds its annual membership meeting Saturday March 2 1963 at 2 00 pm in Shiner City Hall. Directors for the year will be elected and other business to come before the meeting will be transacted. Members urged to attend.
The deceased, long in good health most of life, died February 22 after hospitalization transfers from Frank Wagner Memorial to De Tar Memorial in Victoria. He was 85 years seven months eight days old and survived by four children, with both parents and two brothers previously deceased.
Mrs. Joseph Frank Koncaba of Shiner died suddenly February 18 1963 at 5 20 p.m. at age 74 years seven months and 27 days. She is survived by two daughters Mrs Mary Berckenhoff and Mrs Ernest Baker, two grandchildren and other relatives. Her service was at Buffington Chapel February 19 and Saint Cyril and Methodius Church in Shiner with Father Hanacek officiating. Interment followed in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. She was a longtime parishioner of the Shiner Catholic Church and mother of the late Joseph Koncaba.
