Mrs. Jim Welfl Funeral Rites Read Thursday

Final rites for Pauline Anna Welff were held at Kabena Funeral Home Hallettsville and Sweet Home Catholic Church with Rev. G Kuratko officiating. Burial in Sweet Home Cemetery followed. Rosary said Wednesday night. Born June 25 1913 at Sweet Home daughter of John Biehunko. Married July 9 1940 in Hallettsville. lived in Houston and Wied Lavaca County. Died February 12 1963 in Shiner at age 49. Survived by husband two brothers six sisters and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Monday February 18 1963 at 11 00 a m from St James Catholic Church Gonzales for Mrs Emma Magdeline Saliger wife of Frank Saliger Route 2 Gonzales who died at the home of her daughter Mrs Oscar Roeber in Corpus Christi at 8 30 a m Friday February 15 The last rites were preceded by a short service at Seydler Funeral Home with Rev Father Roebrooks in charge Rosary was said at Seydler s Sunday Pallbearers included Willie Nagelmueller Victor Baker Ernest Baker Leo Saliger David Walshak and Lawrence Walshak.

Schmidt and Melnar Win State Domino Championship

Norman Schmidt of Yoakum and Henry Melnar of Bila Hora won the Annual State Championship Domino Tournament in Hallettsville on Sunday February 17. They earned $25 with 108 players participating from across Texas. Second went to Joe Opera and Louis Zapalac. third to Henry Pohl and Gus Appelt. The Knights of Columbus raised funds for Sacred Heart School athletic program.

Father Of Two Nuns Buried In Houston

Ignac Morris father of Sister M Veronica and Sister M John of the Congregation of the In carnate Word and Blessed Sacrament of Victoria Texas was laid to rest in St Joseph Cemetery in Houston February 13 1963. Survivors include five daughters four sons a brother five sisters and twenty one grandchildren. May his soul rest in peace.

John Gilbert Sr. Rites Held in Rotan

Rev. Arthur R. Peterson reported the death of John Gilbert Sr. of Cisco after a leukemia battle. Funeral services were set for 2 p.m. Wednesday February 20 1963 at Rotan Baptist Church. Gilbert often visited during his son’s tenure at the local Methodist Church and left many friends in Shiner.

R. H. Yoder, Former Weimar Publisher, Dies

Robert H. Yoder 77 former owner and editor of the Weimar Mercury died after a stroke and long illness. Funeral services were held February 12 at Hubbard Funeral Home with burial in Masonic Cemetery. He led the Mercury from 1913 to 1961 and later saw his son J R Yoder run the paper. He was born April 12 1885 in Appleton City Missouri married Beuna James in 1911 and served as Weimar school trustee 1925 1951. Surviving are his widow son four daughters 14 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Frank Lev 80 Dies in Praha February 1963

Frank Lev aged 80 died at his Praha home on Saturday February 9 1963 from a heart attack after a period of ill health. A lifelong Praha farmer he and wife Mary Novak lived there all their married life.
