Second Snowstorm In 29 Days Hits Shiner

An historic weather event unfolded in Shiner on February 8 9 as the second major snowstorm in 29 days blanketed the area. Rain turned to sleet then to heavy snow depths of 2 to 3 inches over sleet, with 2 to 3 more inches on Friday, dropping temperatures to the low 20s. Prior record February snows followed an earlier January 11 event. Public mood shifted from early springlike buds to frolics in sunlit streets as residents faced another frigid spell.

Newly Found Indian Pictographs Draw Texas Interest

Elmer Whiddon Jr reports that in Val Verde County near the confluence of the Pecos and Devils rivers new pictographs from phase II archaic age about 800 B C have been found. The RNK ranch offers families a visit while preserving hunting, wilderness training, and a summer camp site with a 4500 foot airstrip and ranch facilities.
