XX Century Club Delights With Sacred Art Program

The XX Century Club met February 5 1925 at Mrs T M Nowlin's home with seventeen members present. Officers volunteered for the rest room, and a lecture on sacred paintings featured Da Vinci's Last Supper and Raphael Transfiguration. Mrs Wm dtlend Jr spoke on Titian Assumption of the Virgin and Tribute Money. A follow up lesson is planned for February 19 at Mrs Peck Welhausen's home.

At Mrs. Otto Dreyer’s cosy home three tables of hearts were played. Mrs. Walter Muecke won first prize while Mrs. E. J. Merrem took consolation. Delightful hospitality extended to Shiner High faculty

Mesdames C B and Peck Welhausen hosted the Shiner High School faculty at the latter’s home on Saturday night for a Hearts party in the Valentine season. Guests included Miss Ela Wolters and others, with Eula Schultze scoring high and Misa McMaster the booby, plus dainty favors and refreshments.

Mass Meeting on Fair in Shiner City Hall

Citizens of Shiner and vicinity are called to a mass meeting at City Hall on Friday night February 20 to decide if Shiner will host a fair this year. Farmers are especially invited to share their advice. Shiner Fair Association.

Shiner Boy Scout Organization Moves Forward

The Shiner community plans to form a Boy Scout council after weeks of planning. Committees include J M Canon O S T Meyer and Chas J Garbade with A A Schramm, plus C C Amsler and Eli Wolters as solicitors to meet the budget. The quota is raised and a district executive will set a date. Thomas Hughs is proposed as Scout Master.

St Elizabeth Society Elects Officers at January Meeting

The St Elizabeth Society held its regular meeting and annual election on the fourth Sunday in January. The Pythian Sisters entertain the public with a Valentine social at the Pythian Hall tomorrow night the 13th. Tables for 42 seats available. Refreshments of cake sandwiches and coffee will be served. Admission 25 cents. Public invited.

Temple Lumber Co Plans Big Improvements

While scouting for news Saturday this scribe met Gus Jaroszewski manager of Temple Lumber Co stepping off yards and feet indicating plans for extensive improvements soon. New lumber sheds and warehouse space are planned to be erected adding to the facility.

Legion District C 2 Holds Ninth District Convention at Shiner

American Legion District C 2 met in Shiner for a day of business and pleasure with 176 delegates from Gonzales Moulton Yoakum Cuero Hallettsville Round Top Victoria and Yorktown. Sessions led by Dr W T Dunning featured talks by Tom Cheatham and Tom Wallace. Moulton will host next in April. Shiner won a basketball game 45 to 8 and a boxing bout accompanied by a large dance crowd and music from Schultze’s Band and Alf Buske’s Orchestra.

Shiner City Wins New Well Contract to Boost Water Supply

City of Shiner signs contract with Layse Texas Company of Houston to drill a new well guaranteeing minimum output of 300000 gallons daily. If successful, city pays 10186 dollars with no bond issue. work starts March 1 to boost summer supply amid ongoing concerns over quantity. Mayor Rank, City Secretary Canon and alderman Kasper helped seal the deal in Houston.
