Emily Jaks aged 79 passed away January 31 1968 at Faluisek Rest Home Moulton. Funeral was held February 2 1968 at Buffington Funeral Home Shiner then Requiem Mass at Shiner Catholic Church. Burial in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were her nephews Ira Blahuta Ernest Vincik Edward Krejci Frank Eddie and Herman Jaks. She is survived by two half brothers James Robert Jaks and Adolph Paul Jaks and several nieces and nephews.

Shiner High School hosts Pulse of Life program

On Tuesday January 23 1968 Doyle Hines of Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative led a demonstration at Shiner High School showing mouth to mouth resuscitation and external heart massage using a lifelike manikin. The event, featuring the film Pulse of Life, engaged more than 91 students and several teachers including Mrs Jack Turner FHA advisor George Edwards and principal Max Seidenberger assisted with arrangements.

City Urges Property Owners to Trim Street-Hanging Trees

Officials warn residents to raise tree limbs over city streets to clear vehicles including trash trucks and fire apparatus. Low limbs risk damage to cars and city equipment. the city will not be responsible for tree damage.

First Camp Session Set for Green Dickson Camp

Joe McMordie of Austin announced Capitol Area Council will hold its 1968 Council Camp at Green Dickson Pioneer Camp near Highway 90A between Shiner and Gonzales. The eight day Junior Leader Instructor Training Camp runs June 8 to 15 with selected Scouts from fifteen counties attending the eight day session kicks off the council camp. The council acquired 335 acres from the Raymond Dickson Foundation in 1966, already hosting weekend camping. A six acre stocked lake electricity and a water well are in place with more camp layout work planned and funded as available.

Farmer's Meeting At City Hall in Shiner Feb 14

John V. Lindsey Lavaca County Agricultural Agent will be at Shiner City Hall Chamber of Commerce room on Wednesday February 14 from 1 to 5 p.m. to discuss agricultural problems with residents. A trial monthly service for February March and April with bulletins on farming livestock gardening will be provided. If well received the dates may increase to twice monthly and future months will be announced.

St Paul Student Council announces the first annual St Paul Homecoming on February 8 1968. Queen and attendants named by secret ballot will be announced at halftime of the boys basketball game.
