Road trip diary from Hallettsville to East Bernard and Nada

Edmund J. Havelka notes a funeral in Hallettsville then describes East Bernard's new Spanish style school with cement walks costing a thousand dollars and a nearby Sisters home. He travels to Nada to report on a planned thirty thousand dollar church, crosses the Colorado River, observes varied vehicle licenses, details a long sulphur train from Gulf Hill with sixty to eighty three cars, a wreck near Borden, and a large fire with fifty workers. He ends with Wolters Bros. spring goods trip and family visits in Waco and Baylor University.

Theodore Rogge of Shiner announced the sale of the Rogge Gin north of town to the Yorktown Union Gin Company this week. The acquisition brings Yorktown Union to three plants, including the depot plant and the Davy plant built by Rogge about fifteen years ago, who has various business interests in Shiner.

Annual Meeting Of Shiner Farmers Co Operative Gin

The Shiner Farmers Co-Operative Gin and Jill Assn annual meeting on Monday January 28 elected John H. Elsik as chairman and Ed Nellkamper as secretary. Secretary Henry F. Ehlers reported 180 members with about 80 new subscribers, 2253 bales ginned in 1928, a ten percent stock dividend and $3.25 rebate per member bale from 1928 proceeds. Manager Anton Hodanek noted fuel savings from natural gas lowering cost to 5.28 per bale in 1928 from 6.73 in 1927. A 50 percent stock dividend was approved and capital stock increased from $10,000 to $25,000 by a vote of 160 shares. Directors reappointed were Elsik, Ehlers, Remmers, Novak, Nellkamper and Hisik. four term expirations led to reelections for two years. No board reorganization yet. Secretary.

Mrs. R. A. Wolters Die In Schulenburg At 68

Mrs. R A Wolters died at her Schulenburg home on Saturday January 26 at 10 30 AM from flu and heart failure. She was 68 years three months and 22 days old. She married Robert A Wolters June 4 1581 in Schulenburg and lived there until her death. Survived by her mother Mrs G Bohms husband two sons Alfred and Oscar and two grandsons. She helped found the City Cemetery Association and served as secretary. A charter member of the Woodman Circle and a member of the Pythian Sisters. Funeral conducted by Rev Paul Piepenbrok January 27 at 3 PM at the City Cemetery. large funeral by local mourners.
