Twentieth Century Club Holds Civil War Program

The Twentieth Century Club met in regular session February 10 at Mrs. Joe Hughs home with fifteen members and one guest, Mrs. Wm. Green. Librarians for February were named, and a Civil War themed program was presented including Lesser Poets of the Mid-Century, Orators and Statesmen, Songs and Ballads, and Music of Civil War Ballads led by several members. The next meeting is scheduled for February 21 at Mrs. Striebeck’s home.

Last Thursday W. Wendtland & Son hosted a waterless cooking demonstration led by traveling representative Mrs. Bryan. The crowded store enjoyed a prepared meal, and three large waterless cookers were awarded to Mesdames Valenta, Rabe, and Nollkamper while sauce pan favors went to several attendees. The event highlighted the store’s emphasis on healthier cooking.

A shooting at the Sweet Home dance leaves Mrs. T. T. Hester fatally wounded and Alex Hutton with a severed finger. Hester dies at Huth Memorial Hospital after being transported there.
