Shiner merchants boast wide stocks of Christmas and other merchandise. Shop windows glow with attractive holiday trim, rivaling big city displays. Customers praise reasonable prices this season, noting extensive selections to meet varied needs.
The Firemen's Ball to benefit the Shiner Volunteer Fire Company is Tuesday night December 31, 1929. Golden Gate Orchestra provides music on a maple floor for dancing. A good time is assured and the event offers a fine place to spend New Year's Eve. Everyone is invited to help the fire boys.
At the American Legion Hall the Kolar-Stanek Post crews install a new white oak floor for a premier dance area. Santa Claus is hoped to preside at the next dance on December 29 as the station offers oil draining and car care services.
Reverend Kenneth Ahl of Hallettsville will preach Sunday morning December 22 at 10 30 and again Christmas Day morning at 10 30. Everyone is invited to attend these services.
Services at the Methodist Church will fill the regular appointment next Sunday night at 7 o'clock. There will be no preaching service in the morning. Sunday School at 10 o'clock. Everybody cordially invited.
The church outlines holiday services for the Christmas period. Sunday December 22 includes Sunday school at 9 30 A M German service at 10 30. At 1 30 P M a rehearsal for the Christmas program at City Hall. Christmas Day December 25 German service at 10 A M with Holy Communion. Program at 7 P M. Pastor J C A Pfenninger invites all.
A local store advertises a red tag sale running until December 24 offering shirts without color at discounted prices of 95 cents, down from 3 and 3.50 dollars.
The Chamber of Commerce has established a custom observing Christmas Day and New Year’s Day with all business houses closing. The Farmers Shipping will commence stock shipping on the first Tuesday of January, January 7. Persons with hogs sheep or cattle to ship must notify Leo Hubner Frank Tassler Jr or Herman Caka six days prior to the shipping date.
Christmas day includes Midnight Mass at 12 a m with orchestra and English sermon. Second Mass at 8 a m in German with sermon. Third Mass at 10 a m with orchestra and Bohemian sermon. All masses benefit the diocesan seminary. St Stephan feast day mass at 10 a m with Bohemian sermon by Rev L Blinka. Daily masses 7 a m through New Year and devotion at 7 30 p m on Dec 31. Boundary Line School will render their Christmas program Saturday night December 21 beginning at 10 oclock. Admission is 15 ets, including all children over twelve. Children under 12 free. Before the program and throughout the evening music will be furnished by the Happy Three.
