With judging a week away the K of C 1952 Christmas Decoration Contest draws local enthusiasm. Prizes are provided by the sponsoring K of C Council. Entry blanks available via the Gazette and mailed to Alfred Ripper in Shiner.
A reader requests entry into a local contest offering a prize for showcasing a yard window or doorway. They provide name and address for the submission.
A subscription to the Shiner Gazette is pitched as a Christmas gift that provides a year of news. It promises convenience, saves time on letter writing and postage, and offers more news than a single note. Gift cards can be mailed to show the donor.
The Gazette advertises a gala array of Christmas shopping in a six day countdown to Christmas.
Arthur Ward acting post master says the Post Office will remain open all day Saturday December 20 to serve the public. Only two employees will be on duty at the parcel post and stamp windows. The money order window will not open that afternoon.
Preparations are underway for the Shiner Volunteer Fire Department's annual New Year's Eve dance at Legion Park on Wednesday December 31 at 8:00 p.m. Music by Joe Patek's Orchestra. Admission 75 cents for gentlemen and 25 cents for ladies. Dance will be held regardless of weather. No fireworks allowed on park premises. Everyone invited.
The Baptist Sunday School held a Christmas pageant on Wednesday night December 17 at 7 00 p m Miss Joan Turk played Mary with Fred Cook as Joseph and Oran Davis Ray Seale and Gene Dreyer as the Wise Men Shepherds were Jack Cook Clem Blessington and Arnold Stanek and Miss Zell Grasse portrayed the Angel The Sunbeam group sang Away In A Manger directed by Mrs Edwin Gehrels after the pageant gifts were exchanged by children and visitors The Rev O T Breedlove directed the pageant and Christmas sermons followed on December 21 with No Room in the Inn as the morning theme Public invited especially those without a church home
The weekend program includes Methodist Church School Christmas pageant The Lost Christmas Recipe with Santa Claus, Lutheran Church pageant Let Us Worship At The Manger and carols, plus Christian Science lessons focused on God’s creation The Saint Nick visit and multiple church activities precede Christmas Day services and confessions at several congregations across Shiner.
89 Gonzales and Lavaca county selectees were called to report for physical examinations Tuesday, Dec. 16, per draft board clerk Mrs. Nina Parr. The list includes 21 Gonzales residents and numerous others from Nixon, Waelder, Shiner, Luling, Hallettsville, and nearby towns, with many full names and counties shown.
All business houses will close Thursday December 25 and Thursday January 1 1953. Shiner Public Schools and St Mila s Academy will close Tuesday December 23 and resume classes Monday January 5 1953.

Hallettsville Castor Bean Hulling Center will operate on Tuesday December 23 as the last run for this season. Edgar Frey chairman Lavaca County PMA urges bring any Castor Beans to hull on that day.
