Civilian Defense Organization will be formed at once and all citizens wishing to join are requested to register for service Friday evening December 19 at City Hall at 8 p.m.
The schedule lists Confession times on Tuesday for school children and adults, a peak confessional period on Christmas Eve, no confessions on Christmas Day, multiple Masses including Midnight and 8:00 and 9:30 a.m. on Christmas Day, with ushers assisting at Midnight Mass. Rt. Rev. L. P. Netardus serves as pastor.
United Dr Martin Luther Church invites all to a Christmas Program Sunday night December 21 at 7 at City Hall. Santa Claus will give gifts to children and teachers while the Mothers Class is included. The School Band directed by John Othold will perform and William Gerum, the superintendent, has arranged a splendid program for hundreds of friends.

Mrs. George Renken formerly Bertha Reuel died in Corpus Christi after a six month illness. Born in Oldenburg Germany she came to America at age two and lived in Shiner Nordheim and finally Corpus Christi. Survived by three children two sons and a daughter four sisters and one deceased sister. Funeral was held Friday at 10 a.m. with many relatives attending.

The Shiner Boy Scouts set up a Paper Depot in the old ice house opposite the Ford Garage to aid the war effort. They ask residents to save newspapers magazines catalogs kraft paper and wrapping stock and place them at the depot. Scouts will call weekly for paper but ask citizens to not rely on others and to deliver their own waste paper.

Victor Bender and Miss Elva Harbers were united in marriage at 3 PM in United Dr Martin Luther Church with Rev. Schuetze officiating. The ceremony featured a bridal group entrance to a wedding march, bridesmaids Elvera Mueller and Helen Harbers in rose and aqua gowns, and a turkey supper at the groom's parents home. William Henry Dziewas 45 a former Shiner boy died in Wadsworth Kansas at 2 55 am Sunday December 14 He was born in Shiner son of Rev and Mrs Wm Dziewas He taught school served overseas in World War Later worked as bookkeeper at a Ford garage in Shiner Then moved to Lubbock where he lived married Grace Haskell He is survived by his mother two sisters Miss Elsie Dziewas and Mrs Perry Wendt land Victor Theodore and a funeral was held in Lubbock December 16 1930s Gazette obituary summary.

Mrs. Petrolina Michna, long resident of Yoakum and Shiner, died after years of illness at age 86. Born in Ha lenkov Czechoslovakia, she came to America at 13, married Joseph Michna in 1879, raised 11 children, and lived 25 years in Shiner. Funeral Thursday at Mikesh home then Requiem Mass at the Catholic church. Interment Yoakum Catholic cemetery. Pallbearers named. surviving children include Frank, Joe, John, James, Anton, and daughters Agnes, Sophie, Mrs. Joe Mikesh, and Mrs. Frank Cervenka. many grandchildren.
