Japan Attacks Honolulu and Declares War on U S

Japanese warplanes launched a deadly assault on Honolulu and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. A second wave hit within hours as the United States declared war on Japan. White House placed casualties at about 3000 with many feared dead. President Roosevelt urged Congress to declare war and both houses approved. Warnings and blackouts spread along the eastern seaboard amid alarms and precautionary drills.

Santa Claus Visits Shiner Friday

Last Friday evening Santa Claus gladdened about 1500 children in Shiner arriving by truck to a blue illuminated Christmas tree. After a brief address by Supt. J Mil Auld, children lined up to receive fruit and candy. theColored children were remembered as well. Shiner’s decorations and stores are described as well prepared for Christmas, inviting shoppers to compare prices and keep money in town.
