Death Takes Frank Stock Sr. Former Resident

Funeral services were held for Frank Stock Sr. at Buffington Funeral Home in Shiner and Shiner Catholic Church. He died Nov. 30 at 7:50 p m at age 89 4 29. Survivors include son Frank Stock Jr and daughters Ida Untermeyer and Theresia Tietjen. Burial was in Shiner Catholic Cemetery.

Local merchants invite residents to celebrate Local Merchants Appreciation Day on December 15 with gift displays in shop windows and a registration period 9 am to 4 pm in front of Western Auto Store. Gifts to be distributed starting at 4:30 pm. Eligible participants are residents 18 and older.

At the December regular meeting of the Shiner Fire Department Tieken was elected Chief and Wilbur Minar as Assistant Chief for the coming year. Re-elected were Ed Herder as President and W C Schmidt as Secretary, with J E Valenta named chief mechanic and foreman pumper Co. Joe Koncaba asst foreman, J W Valis foreman, booster pumper, J E Kasper asst foreman, booster pumper, and W C Schmidt as Treasurer.

Lavaca County Allocates Four Farm to Market Roads

The State Highway Department with US Public Roads Administration approval lists four Lavaca County routes for 1949 1950. Miles run from Moulton to near Gonzales County line Hallettsville to Lavaca River Bridge Midway to Vlastenec and Ezzell to Hallettsville Victoria Highway. Estimated construction cost 187000 dollars, with county providing right of way. Construction may start by Fall 1949 and maintenance to be state’s.

A Columbus meeting drawn about 350 people from Colorado Fayette Austin Lavaca and adjoining counties joined to organize the Texas Rural Roads Association. Speakers urged county organization with a $1.00 membership and tax support for natural gas. Congressman Thompson pledged to pursue greater Texas highway aid.

Breitkreutz Brings Home 3 Pointer

A 14 year old hunter, Robert Breitkreutz, returned from Fredericksburg with an 8 point buck. His father Walter accompanied him, but Robert earned the first kill, driving in with the deer on the car. The Gazette notes his pride in the successful hunt.

Christmas Play At Green School Dec. 20

The Christmas play at Green School will be presented on Monday December 20 at 7 30 p m. Admission is free. The program is open to the public.

Santa Claus Welcomed At Gala Christmas Arrival

A large crowd gathered Friday evening to greet Santa as he arrived by fire truck escort to a luminous main street Christmas tree. Patek's band played as 1500 children queued for candy and fruit, with Boy Scouts directing traffic and ideal weather enhancing the festive scene.
